Marker: That's definately a problem. How does it look with the res set to your native 4:3 setting? On my 1680x1050 R3000T with an ATI chip, that would be 1400x1050, but if you have a different res screen it would be different. My friend has an R3000Z and his fixed-aspect ratio scaling works fine, so...

The beta of the first patch for Doom 3 has been released. http://www.3dgamers.com/dl/games/doom3/d3_1_05_beta.exe.html As promised, it adds support for choosing 4:3, 16:9, and 16:10 aspect ratios. I'm downloading it as I type this, and hopefully it will give us a true, non-distorted widescreen.
