My Bandwidth Calculator has been updated with more accurate and useful results and info. I also added info on the latest v1.3 of the DisplayPort standard (not finalized yet). DP1.3 compressed bandwidth is noted below the calculator so now you can dream of the huge screens you will be able to game wi...

Will the patch be avail in the near future? Was considering replaying MP2 (i I can get i to run on Win7) but only if I can get it to look "normal" on 1920x1080 obviously :)

I hope that we don't get to a point where we spend more time and energy bitching about the games we play, then actually playing games Well, you haven't played the ME games yet, so you have already spent more time talking about them than playing them! ;) Also, the FTC thing and whatnot. That's silly....

Oh! And in case you did not know, I did not read your entire article just barely the first paragraph. Just to prove a point! Actually no, that's not true, I did read the entire article as that is the only way I can legitimately critique something without being seen as a hypocrite. Mass Effect So you...

This is somewhat related: http://widescreengamingforum.com/forum/14122/fisheye-none-or-optional Although I call it the fisheye effect. Ideally games could have two FOV related options: FOV: 0 to 180 (just as an example, and where zero would be: Flat/No-fisheye) Zoom: -30 to +90 (just an example, 0 w...

For some reason I could not reply to http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=2687 So consider this an addendum to that post. In the game's installed folder (CodemastersSecond Sight) open up secondsight.cfg Find these entries: scr_height= scr_hz= scr_width= As far as I know th...

Actually, i had to mess around even more. No two sources give the same numbers or calculations. They mix raw bandwidth with the various timing modes, and fail to note which is which. Wikipedia is really horrible on this. I ended up just doing the MHz plain, and the Gbit now has a 3.56 modifier in ad...

Someone named Rhy K used the contact form on my site and told me my calculation was off by 25%. This is understandable as no overhead is taken into account. However after researching some... Oh it seems to be worse than that even, by the sound of it http://www.cheathappens.com/show_board2.asp?headID=102610&titleID=16806&onPage=2 a .ini (tweak) is needed to even get it to do 1920x1080, if that is the case then folks need to lobby the game developer for a patch to fix that ASAP (shouldn't...

Considering that the 6870 is currently one of the fastest single core DX11 GPUs, and the fact that the 6870 is built on a now seasoned design it's hard to go wrong with this card. Full HD single or multimonitor, Eyefinity or not, this card should be able to handle it all, time to enjoy some Tesselat...

:hide Ok a bit extreme example there. (over 10:1 aspect heh) But yeah along those lines, obviously the view here is different from a 1st person or 3rd person. But that is exactly the concept I had in mind yeah. So imagine that, only with the camera down on ground level and straight ahead instead of ...

Hmm! AMD and Nvidia could expose this through an API, so that there could be one frustrum per GPU. The game engine would simply get the details from the API (angle/views etc). And in the same way the API could expose sepereate screens (they knda do currently with AMD and the bezel info etc.) so that...

I may however tab the different parts of the calc tool, just so its easyer to read/use each of the elements. Hmm, maybe move or remove the "the new and improved..." text too (to below the calc maybe), as it eats up some lines that the calc could have started at instead. Or maybe even just link to y...

I mentioned this in my lobby rambling on "fisheye" distortion, but I realized I never posted this here. You might wonder what a DPI calculator has got to do with games, but a few games actually does poke the OS and ask what the DPI is. I had a 21.5 inch 1920x1080 (0.248 mm pixel pitch) set at the OS...

Funny you should mention the HUD and Text. look at the first original image, the HUD and text is stretched/distorted there. In my "correct" mockup they look normal again (as they have been un-stretched). Now don't get me wrong, it's not the perspective projection I have an issue with, but rather the...

I wonder if a Orthographic Projection based game engine would avoid the fisheye distortion issue?

I'm talking about the artificial "fisheye", there have been games that does not have it or it's minimal/unnoticable. This does however mean that the game engines must be tweaked, camera positioning must be tweaked, perspective compensation. Right now pretty much all renderers are landlocked to 4:3 p...

48:10 (5040x1050) Gah! Why the heck do all these engines have the darn fisheye effect. Fisheye made sense when there was only 4:3, but with 16:9 or wider it's hardly needed, and if anything there should be a fisheye on/off option for games. Look at the image above, then look at the one below with a...

There is one thing you could do right now that would harm nothing, just slightly change the Anamorphic criteria for the WSGF certification to allow the masking to be user selectable. We never penalize games for giving the user choice, as long as at least one of the choices meets the criteria, it se...
