Hi Everybody,
My name is BAD, and Im a wide screen gaming Noob. lol

My main interests are racing games, rfactor etc.

Ive been looking at the forum for awhile now, but only just signed up.
Lots of useful info, (a bit too much for someone like me, I'm going to get into trouble) hahaha

System info:
Itel- Core I3 550 - 3.20 Ghz
Gigabyte H55M-USB3 Mobo Bios version F11
Gigabyte Geforce GTX-560 Driver 301.42
8 GB 1600 Corsair RAM
Cooler Master 500w PSU
Asus VS248H

I have just bought a few new goodies
2 extra Asus VS248H Monitors
1 extra Gigabyte GTX560
1 x Cooler Master Silent Pro Hybrid 850W PSU

So the plan was to run the first card for my main monitor (center screen) and to run the side screens off the second card.
I know the GTX560 wont run 3 screens, so I was advised to get a second card.
I cant run these cards SLI on this mobo, I should have realized this a long time ago.

Anyway I connected it all up, made a stand to hold all three monitors to my rig, started it up ............ No second card detected!

I swapped the two cards around, still doesn't detect the second card.
Then I pulled the first card out and tried starting it on just the second slot (with each card). Nothing at all.
Changed Initial Display in the bios from PCIE to PEG & PEG2

I also checked the Bios to see if the second PCIe slot needed activating, cant see the option anywhere.

So reinstalled the VGA drivers...... still no second card!!!

what am I doing wrong?

Can someone point me in the right direction to get the advise or help I need.

All help greatly appreciated
Cheers
Bad

So you put the old GPU, which you know is working, into 2nd PCI-E2.0 Slot and you dont get any signal?

Same power connector as in old slot?

What does the Mainboard Manual say about SLI?

Check out Mainboard support Forums if there is a bug in the BIOS Firmware, newer Software aviable?

Or the slot might be broken. Do you, or a friend, oe anyone near has any other pci-e hardware? Like a soundcard or such so you could try that?

Thats all i can think of. Hope you resolve your problem.

Thanks Mate

Hi Haldi, thank you for the reply, see below

So you put the old GPU, which you know is working, into 2nd PCI-E2.0 Slot and you dont get any signal? Yep, both cards work when tried in slot 1

Same power connector as in old slot? no, tried different lines (4 different ones from this PSU)

What does the Mainboard Manual say about SLI? no SLI with this board Im afraid

Check out Mainboard support Forums if there is a bug in the BIOS Firmware, newer Software aviable? checked as much as I can, nothing I can find. I have the latest Bios

Or the slot might be broken. Do you, or a friend, oe anyone near has any other pci-e hardware? Like a soundcard or such so you could try that? Thats my last measure, I have to track someone down who has something I can try

Thats all i can think of. Hope you resolve your problem.

If you board does not support sli then you will have a performance drop with those cards but that does not mean that it wont work. I think the slot is broken. Does the fan spins on the videocard in slot 2??

I would not buy a second card when my board doesn't support SLI. My advice would be to sell your old 560, return the second 560 and buy a 670/680 so you can run surround of of one card.

Also a good choice to do and then you have always the space to upgrade to another 670/680 for SLI if the 670/680 gets to weak.

Than he would have to also upgrade his board since it doesn't support SLI...

Yep, I realize that I will loose a bit of performance.
Yep, both fans spin, but they are powered directly from the PSU.

The 670 & 680 are out of my price range at the moment.
And I'm not sure if they will fit inside the case

I just tried another card in the second slot (GT430) still nothing.

Cheers

I searched your mobo in google and find this site and i looked into your specifications of your mobo and find this:

1 x PCI Express x16 slot, running at x16 (PCIEX16) (Note 5)
(The PCIEX16 slot conforms to PCI Express 2.0 standard.)
1 x PCI Express x16 slot, running at x1 (PCIEX4_X1)
2 x PCI slots

As you can see your second gpu slot is a x16 slot but is only running at x1. So this means that this slot isn't intended for your GPU. You really need a new mobo that got 2 x16 slots or (1 x16 and 1 x8 slot) and also with SLI support.

I also searched the net for you for a good motherboard and i only found this one. But this one only supports i5/i7 cpu's.

Its really hard to find a mobo thats supports sli, LGA 1156 and i3 CPU and also cheap.

I should save some money and buy a LGA 1155 motherboard thats support SLI and a new i5 or i7 CPU.

Won't happen with a i3 ! intel's 1155, or 1156 have a maximum of 16 PCI-E Lanes. so maximum you can get is 2* 8x, but with 1155 you have PCI-E 3.0 so 2*8x will be enough.
Only 1337 or 2011 do have 40x PCI-E lanes
IIRC AMD's FX 990 chipset supports 40 PCI-E Lanes.
