I've never seen an online game where your char. wasn't server-side, otherwise the cheating would be too easy.

Same here, The only two that I can think of are Titans Quest (The Online was thrown in as an after thought, its really just for 2 friends to start a game and play with each other. And the original Diablo. Then Blizzard learned oh so much with Diablo and the massive amounts of cheating on it that they made the characters stored serverside in Diablo2.

Yeah, I know the games work that way. I just find it ironic that the first server-side character I've ever created gets lost due to data corruption.

I mentionned the video drivers because ever since the nvidia versions passed 1.75 or so, I've had random occurences of 'texture frenzy' where everything goes stretchy, like a major overclock gone bad or overheat, only that's not the case because there's no overclocking and heat is low enough that I feel cool air out the case and even opening it wide doesn't help.

That is similar to what is going on with me. Here is what the game looks like when I load the server character:

I can load local NWN game saves without trouble. I even created a new character on the server that plays without error. This only happens with the first character I created on the server, and it happens every time. I have no idea what I did, but all the evidence points to corrupt data.

Wow, that is weird! I would say that the server is missing some textures but since other people aren't having that problem I can't say what it is. did you try deleting the local cache ? I don't have it installed so I can't tell you where it is, but I know when I hosted NWN servers back in the day it use download a copy of the character locally. that's if my memory servers me correctly...hrm...my brain is failing me. I could be wrong, but would be worth a shot.

I assume you mean the files in the NWNlocalvault folder. I tried that--no change. Can't think of anything else to try.

On the scale of mishaps this isn't so bad. I'll just have to start up a new character when I can.
