Yeah that's out of date. I don't remember where but someone did test TH and it has the problem with missing text.

We figured out that the issue is with the way the game's letterboxing works. The letterbox bars (which is where dialog text is displayed) are affected by the aspect ratio. The wider the ratio, the smaller the bars in relation to the total screen height. If the lower letterbox pane ends up being less than 100 pixels tall, text won't display because the game wants to reserve that much space for the text control (everything in KOTOR's GUI is internally pixel based).

The letterbox bars become so thin at TH aspects that there's no resolution high enough such that the bar would end up over 100 pixels.

D :

I remember that now. I had myself going there for a second. Last time I checked I couldn't edit the wiki so somebody with edit privileges should change that.

Well, that explains why it has no text when I run it at 5760x1080.. guess I'll have to knock her down to 1920x1080 :)

Hi.

I really need some help here. I googled this issue to death and I still can't figure out how this is done.

The Hacks for KOTOR page says the following:

For users of 720p HDTVs or 1360x768 displays, I suggest setting up a custom resolution of 1530x864 (the closest resolution that runs ok) and using video card scaling to downscale this to your native resolution.

How is this is done?
I have a 1366*768 display, I'm using a Mobility HD3200 with the Catalyst 9.10 drivers and I installed the latest Powerstrip 3.83. I'm using Windows 7 64bit.

Running Powerstrip as an administrator, I reach the "custom resolutions" menu and I input the 1530*864 resolution, choose "add resolution" and I restart windows as I'm told to. However, no new resolution appears in the resolution settings after windows restarts.

This doesn't really make sense to me, either. How can I setup a higher resolution than the maximum in my LCD screen? Is this even possible? I've searched for this all over the net with no success, but the hack page refers to it as such a trivial thing -> this is really frustrating!
I also tried this with pre-written resolutions from Powerstrip like 1440*900 and nothing.

Furthermore, what is "video card scaling to downscale"? Up until now, I new the term "video card scaling" for Crossfire or SLI efficiency, never heard this for custom resolutions.

Any help, please?

I haven't used an ATI/AMD card in a long time, so unfortunately I can't be much help on how to set it up on that card.

However, "video card scaling" in the case refers to resolution scaling. E.g. if you run a resolution smaller than 1366x768 and it's resized to fill your whole screen then the screen image has been "scaled".

Most monitors have built-in hardware to perform this scaling, however scaling can also be done on the video card side so that the resolution that's output to you monitor is always the native resolution, and the resizing is performed by your video card instead of the monitor.

Monitors won't accept or downscale higher resolutions, only upscale lower resolutions. This is why you need to enable video card scaling, because video card scaling will downscale higher resolutions (at least on nVidia cards). The resolution that's output to your monitor will still be 1366x768; 1530x864 will be resized to that resolution by your video card.

Video card scaling should be a setting in your drivers, it would probably a be labeled "Flat Panel Scaling". Also, at least on nVidia cards, you can only use scaling if you're connected to your monitor via DVI/HDMI - if you're still using a VGA connection, you're out of luck.

I am having issues with the HUD showing up in the correct position. I am playing @ 1920x1200. I have copied the 1920x1200 HUD correction files to the 'Override' folder. The resolution and the backgrounds are all showing up correctly, but the HUD it still in the original position. I have even tried playing @ 1920x1080 and using the 1920x1080 HUD correction files, but once again the HUD is in the original place in the middle of the screen.

Sounds like you didn't choose the 1024x768 interface option when patching the game with UniWS.

There are several different options for KoTOR in UniWS, one for each HUD size in the base game. The modded HUD files replace the 1024x768 HUD, so that's the option you have to choose when patching the game.

Damn this game. Why can't I run it in widescreen AND windowed mode?

If anyone figures out how to do this, I'll buy you a beer.

You can. Just select the correct options in game.

But if you can't get 1440x900 at fullscreen you are not going to get it windowed either.

Try the ini file in the game folder. Make sure the resolution is what you want and the fullscreen is set to 0.
