Well, ETS2 is not a Steam exclusive so it is possible to stick to any game version that suits you best... Useful if you're not a fan of core game changes, or to use discontinued mods. So even though 1.17 looks like the Trucker God's gift to Multi-mon users, someone somewhere may still have a use for your stuff
Anyhonk - could you share the configuration details of your sweet setup ? Do you ever use any of the external cameras ?
Sorry for the late reply. Well, even using steam, you can stick to an older version of the game FYI. I did it once. There was this amazing Scania open pipe sound mod, but it only worked on version 1.8.5. So I had to stick with that version for a long time because the mod was so good that I couldn't live without it. Also, the Scandinavia DLC will be only distributed via steam, so at the end of the day, all versions of ETS2 will be steam versions, at least the ones with the scandinavia DLC.
About my setup, I'm using a more advanced setup now compared to the one I posted in the pic above. I'm using 5 screens now: Nvidia 4x1 2D surround for the truck, side mirrors and windshield, and the fifth screen is for the dashboard. I'll post a picture later, but here I left you with my multimon_config.sii file for such setup:

To put the dashboard on the fifth screen, you just need to use the telemetry webserver and the dashboard mobile found in the thread below:
http://forum.scssoft.com/viewtopic.php?f=41&t=171000I use multimon mode4 to setup the whole thing. If you need more in-depth details, I can provide that. But it's all in that guide on SCS site that is listed in a post above. I must add that I talked to an ETS2 developer recently about this matter, and he said that multimonitor user-friendly setup UI is not a top priority, infact is a low one. So all you have is a command line console to play with. At least you don't have to guess the values, I think ^^''
Thing is: SCS still didn't realise how big ETS2 got after it's release in 2012. I know people that started with just the game, one screen and a keyboard+mouse. And today those people have triple screen setup, with Logitech G27 and even some people have a real truck dashboard to play with. It's amazing!
I invite everyone in here to just try the game. 7 out of 10 find it very pleasant. Even my mother. And she is almost 70 years old and hates games with a passion.
EDIT: I forgot to say that I rarelly use external cameras, if none at all. I just stick my head out of the window using Track IR so I can park the truck with more precision when delivering things at their destination.
EDIT2: here is my actual setup: 4 screens for windshield and side mirrors, fifth screen for dashboard, one shifter for changing gears, and another for parking-brake (when UP) and changing form Hi to Low gearbox (when DOWN or NEUTRAL) and also for extra buttons.
