no it has lan mode that works fine with out windows live
BUT if you want to play on the net you need to pay for Windows Live the game comes with a free month of Live so you can play for free on the NET for that time but you do not have to play for LAN play also co-op is only 2 player lame

yea the check point saves on top of that are lame too
and WTF CHECK POINT SAVES THIS DAY IN AGE even on the 360 thats lame

I prefer the checkpoint asve system for most game types, myself. As long as the AI is able to do it, it ends up being a littel different each time, keeping it somewhat fresh. Tha trick is well placed checkpoints, and often enough, which I think GoW does.

Quicksaves amkes some gaems far too easy.

You could probably use Hamachi to fake a lan connection so you can play online with your friends instead of using live.

I have already read somewhere that people have tried it and Hamachi doesn't work.

Multiplayer's not that great anyway (apart from Co-op i guess)
