[quote]It's still too little, too late. They should have made their engine default to hor + behavior in the first place. That could have removed the need for hacks for Bioshock, Stranglehold, and future games in the first place.

Too late? the game's not even released in Aus, NZ or UK yet (tommorow If memory serves).

I do agree it should do it properly out of the box, and also I hear the FOV is still restricted to 100 (but does now stick at least) so it's not a full fix for sure nor of much use to multi screen users or 16:9.

He was talking about the engine's default. Without developer intervention, U3 (or whatever) defaults to tallscreen.

Not sure how useful a FOV patch is if it's "not of much use" to widescreen users...

Then again, it is a "beta" patch...

Sounds like Nvidia worked on this patch...

Oh yeah, I missed the part refferring to all UE3 games. NO need to tell me man, i've been banging on the "UE3 sucks at widescreen" drums since Bioshock.

A reviewer even mentioning widescreen support? Maybe we'll become more than just a 'niche market!'

Maybe UE3 doesn't have any WS support but if devs start realizing Epic did it wrong, maybe they can at least tweak/fix it for their own games? Wishful thinking.

infernus - never a truer word spoken - wishful thinking indeed, most likely.

What amazes me is that they got it right with Unreal Tournament and UT2003/2004. But they break UT3? Why?

I wouldn't say they "got it right" entirely. The games did, after all, default to vert - behavior. You still had to manually increase the FOV via .ini edit. And there were a handful of UT2k3 engine games where this wasn't possible.

OK.

Let me amend my previous statement by allowing readers to add the word 'mostly' where they deem it most appropriate. ;) (That would be between the words 'got it' and 'right'...)
