I have received confirmation that the GamersGate version of Saints Row 2 is 100% Steam-free o/

It's also box-free. :P

Indeedy ! Much easier to dispose of, in case the game really sucks.

I didn't know Steam could be "extracted" so easily from a game (activation + multiplayer). Hopefully more examples will follow, so we finally have the choice to go the Steam way or not.

I'm not a big sandbox gamer, but this title right here was actually a lot of fun for me.

Unfortunately...I first bought it on PC and I couldn't make it through with the performance...

It irked me more when you'd go into the forums and people would tell you that there's nothing wrong with the game, it's all your system...so I finally gave up and in and bought the PS3 version--finally finished it and had a blast doing so.

If anyone that's bought this title steered clear of Red Faction:G PC; I can tell you that RF:G runs a hell-uv-alot smoother than Saints did. Just a side note there.

Well, the patched Steam version of Saints Row 2 probably works like a charm thanks to the performance-oriented patches that were issued. Unfortunately for me, the brand new Gamersgate version is the outdated, unpatched game.
This means resolution detection is broken... ok, this can be easily fixed. However there's nothing I can do for that mind-numbingly stupid 32-fps framerate cap. (There should be a logo for framerate-capped PC games. And laws against their distribution.)

I should've known getting rid of Steam couldn't be that easy...
