I actually have had to call MS because my product key had been used up. But that was 5 years ago when I was reformatting every week. Don't ask.

I've had to call like 3 times... I've reformated that computer maybe 4 times since the last time that I called all 4 times I opted to use a pirated copy rather than phone.

But in it's 15+ year existance have you ever had a problem activating Windows? I haven't.

Not my point. Artificial expiration dates or enforced end-of-life technology on goods that would otherwise be viable indefinitely is what I dislike.

There comes a point where complaining about DRM hurts you more than anyone else. Not playing amazing games is one example. Besides, the Liveless mod removes this concern anyway.

I routinely choose not to purchase goods or patronize certain businesses and I am not "hurt" in the least. This is because the reasons for declining my patronage are more important to me than whatever benefit might be offered by the product/service in question.

But at this point GTA4 is $20 brand new... consider it a 7 year rental if you must, still worth $20.

I haven't really decided at what price point GTA4 would be worth purchasing. Maybe $5. I don't know.

Honestly I don't have much interest in it anyway.

Windows has only had activation since the launch of XP. Which was... what, 2000? So not fifteen years. Although it's quite scary that it's already been a decade...

GTA4 was worth a fiver to me. It's way better on the PC than on the PS3. I can actually shoot at things and hit them, rather than get shot and die every time I reach a point in the game where using a gun is needed...

I hear ya, Just last night i played my GTA with my controller and every firefight i got into, i ended up getting killed. But having two simultaneous control devices is pretty handy for sessions. :)

Is it March yet?

for me GTA4 is more worth it if you really got a "super power computer"

that is if it can handle the max amount of details you really get a feeling of being in real life with the cheer amount of cars on screen in high details
kind of remind me of midtown madness 1 or 2 which allowed to have high car density in a couple of areas and so the player had to really dodge the traffic ... ( but those were in very low detail of course  )

GTA4 also got a few examples (not all though ..) of the best hairs we can do in 3D unlike mass effect for example which are just plain 3D models (on the hair front) (on the player character for example you can almost see each hair and really get a sense of "hair depth" (kind of... if you see what I mean)

for me, what's missing in GTA4 is : unlimited taxi driver missions and also for firetrucks, ambulances, regular trucks, cycles, & the like ...
all the things that allow you to roam the place all around and enjoy the road, cars ......

It does bug me that GTA4 is pretty much the only game I can't max, but it still looks good at lower settings to me. Putting textures on medium and then cranking the draw distance seems to be the best middleground solution for me.

I've not got the draw distance all the way up on GTA4, but I've got everything else maxed and it plays OK. The game reckons I'm using 1434MB of my 1024MB VRAM (obviously duplicated due to internally CrossFired card) in the menu, but runs fine - the framerate is consistent and smooth.
