That is 3840 x 2160. Supposedly native.

I call bullshit.

EDIT - It may also upscale a 1080p resolution to 4K. Given the lack of value consumers get with upgrading to 4K from 1080p this makes no sense. It just drives up the console price. And the difference between a 1080p image upscaled to 4K by a display as opposed to a console is probably negligible to a TV user.

Is Sony really going to do something this stupid?

Stupid? Thats a genious idea! What do you think how many 4k TV's sony will sell because of their PS4 ? ^^

Right now most games render in 720p or smaler and scale up to 1080p right? So why not render in 1080p in the Future and then render up to 4k. Not like any1 is gonna have a 4K TV in the next 2 years ^^ (well yeah, 10k upwards... $$$)

So why not ? Maybe future BlueRay movies will be in 4k ?

P.S 3840x2160 = 8.3mp 5760x1080=6.2MP ! So what were the rumours about the GPU in PS4 ? AMD 7850 ?

Most PS3 games don't make it past 720p. Scaled or native.

It doesn't make sense because it adds to the cost of a product that they are most likely going to be selling at a loss. Yet the number of people using this are going to be small.

It is not going to be native, too much for a console at this time. Most users on this site probably can't get a constant 30 FPS at that resolution on their PCs.

If it is a scalar it probably means hardware. PS3 uses software now and it usually cannot do 1080p playable. Use the built-in scalars that will ship with the $$$ 4K displays, it makes more sense.

EDIT - Sony already is pushing 4K Bluray and the like. Even though their 4K players currently do nothing but upscale 1080p. They can't even play 4k discs. It is not supported by the current format. And the TVs already upscale. Sony, ehh.

Oh yeah, I'll get a PS4 just to hook up to my 30k dollar 4K TV.

No wait, that's silly. How about I just drop 90 grand and do nVidia surround on 4K TVs? Yeah, that would be awesome.

If only I was rich...
