if any/all of those have something like an in-game zoom of some type, sniper rifle or other wise.

You can probably use that with a generic memory tool like cheat engine,

example, fov is 90 regular and put to 40 for 'zoom effect', once you isolate where that value is, you can set whatever you want.

I wish I knew doing all that stuff but that's not the case. Thanks tho.

I think there must be an easy way of gaining just horizontal FOV because many games support the aspect ratio fix for rectangular pixels natively (disabled you get an stretched picture; enabled you get a proper picture).

Racer_S' Far Cry 2 hack does just that for me; I select 1024x768 resolution and then I configure the hack as follows and it fixes the stretched picture:

1024x768 / No AR correction

1024x768 / AR Fixed

I wish the games I posted supported this fix too...

Tried running a non-native res. to counter in the opposite way? I've never used a plasma, I guess it depends how useful the onboard scaler is.

Yep, tried 1360x768 but there is a noticeable loss in quality compared to the native res (1280x720 or any other resolution with 720 vertical pixels look worse)

I'm very picky about visual quality and that's why I'd rather pay for a custom FOV hack than playing a game at 1360x768 in my plasma. You might be thinking then how is it that I play at such a low resolution but you should see how great games look on a 37" plasma with all the visuals turned up at 1024x768.

yeah i got a 76cm LCD and VGA cable looks wicked at 1360x768

1280x720 isnt even my native res (for some reason) so VGA actually has a sharper picture than HD on my TV

PS
id be willing to pay for a FOV fix for some of my games

Were I to be nasty I'd question your reasons for investing in rectangle pixels in the first place.

Anyhow, I understand that can't really be changed now. If I knew how to do fov fixes like those Racer_S did I probably would. As it stands though, I can barely find double pointers at the moment.

Maybe a centered / fixed sub-res of 1024x768 would work? if the pixels aren't scale the quality might be less hit and you'd just have black pillars.

Any info you can give me would be much appreciated dopefish, however, wouldn't it be more productive if maybe we set-up a wiki or something with all the 'how-to' info and related, so anyone that wants/can help could?

Yeah, I suggested a sub-forum for development awhile ago, but nothing ever came out of it.

Would the Mods, Skins & Tools section work? It does present itself as a dev area:
...and camera tools

You can count me as another interested party. I've just recently begun dabbling in memory editing, and while I love the challenge of figuring something out on my own I also recognize the value of learning from those with experience. Whatever you decide to share, Dopefish, I will be listening. ;)

I'd mainly push for something more public then person to person messages since it would just be me adding yet another project to a pile I haven't begun to reduce.
