Ok, I took a look into the main NHL06.exe file and fiddled with it and a hex editor. Interestingly enough, I found only one occurence of 800x600 and when I tried to edit that it changed nothing in the game. I tried several different resolutions.

I did, however, find 30 locations for 1280x1024 and I changed a few. Most of them did nothing but one of them caused the game to crash right when you start a game. It looks like it tries to change the resolution but fails.

This is as close as i've gotten so far. But i'm not giving up yet.

ok...i've definitely found the location in the EXE file where the resolutions are set. But if I try to change any of them (ie 1600x1200 to 1680x1050) I either don't get the 1600x1200 or the 1680x1050 in the list of choices, or the game crashes when it tries to go into the game.

Being a beginner at this, maybe someone who has had more experience can take a closer look now that we know where the res's are. I'm using the latest version of WinHex as my editor and the resolutions are located around Offset 1500

Good luck!

Any success yet? Is there any way to force 4:3 ratio (bars on left and right sides) on a widescreen monitor? At 1600x1200 it stretches left and right to fill the 1920x1200 screen. Setting the desktop to 1600x1200 doesn't help. I have a Dell 2405p.

Either set it to 'fixed aspect scaling' in the Dell OSD (read the manual to find out how) or (if you have an nVidia card) you can do it in the driver control panel. :)

I'm outputting the game to my widescreen rear projection TV via DVI cable. When I put the game in 1280x1024 it is displayed as a normal 4:3 with the bars on the left and right. Any other resolution and I get a very small screen that just looks sad and pathetic.

I have still had no luck. They really did a good job of making the NHL games tough to get in widescreen. 1280x1024 is the highest resolution I can get.

I will have another crack at it early next week and i'll post my results.

I don't have the option in DVI mode. For some bizarre reason, the higher quality inputs you use on this monitor, the less features available.

I switched over to a VGA cable, and I can change the aspect ratio in that mode, and at least get a normal looking game.

I'll try 1280x1024 and see if that defaults to 4:3 even when in widescreen DVI mode.

I have a Dell 2405 also and using 1600x1200 for NHL2006. It doesnt seem that bad really, and looks amazing.

Same here. I guess it's the nature of the game that doesn't make it look stretched out.
