Well, I got it working at 1680x1050 just editing the config file. I was originally trying for 1280x800 because I figured my system probably wouldn't play too nice with the maximum resolution. But I guess my computer's got problems, this isn't the first time a game has refused to run at a widescreen resolution other than 1680x1050. Maybe I need to change some driver setting. (edit: and, yeah. I just figured it out. I had to add 1280x800 as a custom resolution in the nvidia control panel. works perfectly now *slap forehead*)

Anyway, the full game actually has better support for widescreen than the demo, because the menu screens don't get cut off at the top and bottom now.

And here's a screenshot comparison just because. (click for full-size)

Looks good. I'm not normally a great fan of psychological horror games (like Doom 3 and The Thing and whatnot...) but this looks like I might have to reconsider... :D

You can edit the config to get 1680x1050 or 1920x1200 to work, but there's no way to fix the FoV and the FoV is WAAAAAAY off. People to the left and right of the screen look like Danny Devito, only shorter. If anyone knows a way to fix the FoV, please reply.

I haven't experienced any FOV problems. Got any screenshots of what you're talking about?

@ Kilmar ...
It's normal with most games for things to get fatter towards the edges of the screen... even at 4:3 ... and it gets worse the wider your screen is ...

Some screens to illustrate ...
I haven't moved position in any of the shots ... all I have done is turned to get the NPC nearer to the edge/side.

Click to enlarge ... even when enlarged they are not full size.

Doom 3 ... even the boxes are changing size ...

Half Life 2

Moto GP3 ... see how the bikes get really stretched on the side screens of my 3-screen setup ...

Yes, the wider towards the edge of the screen (aka fisheye lens effect) is called "not the correct Field of Vision". It is not normal. Games that allow FoV to be changed do not have Mini-me's running around to the left and right of you.

It is normal. Most games' default FOV is like that, and if you change it then things in the center don't look right..

Dude it is not normal in any way. None of the other widescreen games I've played have any distortion at the edges.

Well, at least 3 of the biggest games from the last couple years have this effect (whether in widescreen or not), so it's certainly not unusual.
