If the retail version did not require the disc in the drive then why would they have copy-protection and cracks online?

I couldn't tell you, I just installed with the 2 dvd's. put them in the case and away. and started it with no troubles.

Would it help if you had the exe to the retail verison?

Thanks for the fix dopefish, I have been using your WSFixer for a while now in other games. The version for this game in the 28 December post causes my game to crash after a minute. It does otherwise work the way I expected. Anything I can provide that could help?

the "remove black bars" option is greyed out

Yes. While some of it is implemented there are some outstanding issues that persist with it, so I have it disabled for now until I work those out.

Would it help if you had the exe to the retail verison?

Sure. Upload it here, https://files.gaemsofyesterday.com/
I'll let you know if it bugs me for a CD or doesn't work.

Yes. When does it crash and what are you doing when it does crash? I have experienced some crashes when transitioning between the main menu and the game itself, and sometimes when exiting the game, but I'm not sure if it ever just randomly crashed on me while in the middle of playing. Also, what FOV setting do you have it at? The safe range is 1.25-3.75. While I do allow adjustments outside of it, some awkwardness, or even crashes, may occur above or below that range.

I have been using 3-3.5 (3840/1024=3.75, but is too large a FOV for my taste). I'm assuming the slider is the aspect ratio because it looks it.

Once the game actually starts (get past the cut scene at the start of a case), I have about a minute before it crashes. Without the fix enabled it does not crash, but is nearly impossible to play because of the zoomed in FOV. I can just stand there in the police station, or walk around and it is the same, crashes within a minute when enabling the fix.

Edit: I loaded some older drivers (280.19, had been using 285.79) and played for about 5 minutes with no crash. Any of the newer "BF3" drivers seemed to break a lot of games. For example Crysis+Wars for the MWLL mod and Minecraft-whole system crash, need to re install drivers by using driver sweeper to get the 2nd video card and 3rd monitor back in windows, Magika-if I didn't let the main menu completely load on its own, Killing Floor-getting GPF's every couple minutes, TF2 with CTD with no error, if anything comes up in the event log it points to nvidia drivers, RO2, APB, and I think I can add LA Noire with the Widescreen Fixer to the list just to name a few... The best part is the latest drivers with BF3 support not fix any of those and most full screen games are now broken, including BF3....

I've noticed a trend of Nvidia not really supporting older cards as soon as new ones come out, or at least they break them with newer drivers. Previous to the 280.19's, the only drivers I could use on a daily basis were the 260's from a year earlier. I don't feel a GTX275 is obsolete at all considering I play at 3840 or 4032x1024 which is the same number of pixels as 2560x1600 without much of a performance issue. The only issue is the small frame buffer, 896MB, so I have to turn down some details to keep the video memory usage down. I spent most of last night with a video stress test going to try to rule out a video hardware issue, and had run a few stress tests over the last few days with no issues.

Ok, there are 2 (not sure what you will need)
1. LANLauncher.exe (launches the launcher)
2. LANoire.exe (launches the game directly , takes some time to do so on my computer though)

i dont have this game, but i did note that on other games when running the nvidia beta 290+ drivers i had random crashes, system locks etc.
almost all semeed to happen when in "span" mode, if i went back to one monitor everything was fine. but thats now why i got a triple screen setup!!

i think the latest drivers i was happy with stuff like skyrim and saints row 3, but playing anything else seems to have a ton of troubles.. at least for me it does. i have the THQ pack on steam and alot of THQ games work with 3x screens. but i was getting all kinda crashes after the update :P

revved back to 285 or 284, not at home ATM, and things are much better in span mode (which i am "always" in)
so it could be related to drivers for you too

Hi, I'm playing the Complete Edition from steam, and I'm getting major performance hit when I fire up the Widescreen Fixer. 10-24 FPS at 5760x1080 - all minimal details - 100% gpu use, trifire rig 6990+6970. Do you have any tips for me? Performance hit occurs when I fire up the Widescreen Fixer at 1080p.
