Change the format in Video Options from 4:3 to 16:10 and you will have 1280x768 as a choice. No customization needed.

1280x720 is 16:9 AR. Not 768.

Actually, 1280x800 is a 16:10 ratio res. And 1280x720 is a 16:9 ratio.

1280x768 is a sort of halfbreed of the two: neither a true 16:10 or 16:9... which makes me wonder why its just about the only widescreen res available in the lower screen sizes (it's the de facto standard for 17" widescreens on desktops, when laptops can have just about any res panel...)

i think it's because of standard format, like 1024x768, for software, drivers etc... 720 and 800 didn't exist yet

Yeah, 1280x768 is cool because you can run a standard 1024x768 pictue and it will automatically fill the screen vertically, with just black bars on both sides . . .

. . . unless your 1280x768 panel is an Acer AL1751W, in which case it doesn't matter a damn what 4:3 resolution you set, you're still going to get a distorted picture.

1280x768 is the defacto standard for LCD TV's. only ultraportable laptops with 12" screens use this res that i know of.

most (cheap) widescreen notebooks and 17" desktop displays use 1280x800.

I have a 1280x1024 LCD monitor. Is it possible to run at 640x512?

1280x768 (WXGA) is the standard now being used for most 17" widescreen LCD monitors.
