Doom 3 is totally ignoring my autoexec.cfg file that I have created to run in widescreen mode on my 2005fpw. Here is exactly what I have in it:

seta r_mode "-1"
seta r_customHeight "1050"
seta r_customWidth "1680"
seta r_aspectratio "2"
seta com_allowConsole "1"

When I launch the game and check the value of r_mode in the console, it is always 3. I can then type "exec autoexec.cfg" and then r_mode will be -1 but my res will still be the same. I can't even change the res within the game. It is always stuck on 640x480. What do I do?

special k,
if your gonna make an autoexec file that you want doom to use, you must put a command at the end of your shortcut to execute it when you start. When you check the console for the r_mode vlaue, it will tell you whats in your doom config file, when you execute your autoexec from the console, your res will not change until you restart the game or use the vid restart command, and because your autoexec doesnt execute on start up your rite back were you began.
So some solutions would be to either;
put a command at the end of your doom 3 shortcut to execute your autoexec.cfg file on start up of the game. Should look like this
e.g. "C:Doom 3doom3.exe" + set exec autoexec.cfg.

or edit the doomconfig.cfg file in your doom3base folder to the same values you have in your autoexec file.

As far as your res always showing 640x480 that is normal, if you put in a custom res, it will show in hte menu as 640x480, but your custom res should be active.
hope this helps, i tried to simplify as best i could.

gotchaforce,
if you edited the doomconfig.cfg file, make sure that you make r_mode to -1 or your new res wont work. If you have done that and your new res still wont work, copy and paste your autoexec.cfg file and we'll make sure its correct.

ive gone over my base config file about 20 times, ctrl+F searching everything and changing it, i made an autoexec.cfg based right off of the original posters autoexec, it SHOULD work. im 100% sure that id screwed all widescreen gamers with the 1.3 patch (that is, the ones that didnt have it enabled before). Basically i have to reinstall all of doom 3 and use an older patch, because chances are that will work flawlessly.

I added a line in my doom 3 shortcut to execute my autoexec.bat, which contains all the commands necessary to play doom 3 in widescreen. That fixed the problem, although I thought if I named it autoexec it would execute automatically. Guess not. Oh well, thanks for the help everyone.

I think the auto execute file for Doom 3 is called 'doomconfig.cfg'. Quake 3 uses autoexec.cfg, but other games use different ones, eg: jk2config.cfg for Jedi Knight II. It depends on what the coders set. :)
