I just got the game and although it supports widescreen resolutions, everything is still stretched and squished compared to a regular monitor. Need a solution to change the FOV or something. Help!

And before someone says "turn on the widescreen in options", here's the description from the manual:

Widescreen on/off:
This optino is not as obvious as it sounds. Using the Widescreen toggle you can force a 4:3 aspect ratio resolution to use a 16:9 aspect ratio (so if Grand Theft Auto only offers you 4:3 aspect ratio screen resolutions to use, but your laptop has a 16:9 ratio widescreen display, then this will force the 4:3 resolution to look like 16:9; thereby sorting out the "squashed CJ" look). A proper 16:9 resolution displayed on a 16:9 screen does not need the use of the widescreen toggle (or this will result in "skinny CJ")

Maybe it's supposed to be "fatter" than 4:3, I got used to it after playing for a while, still looks "fat" compared to what I'm used to see but I guess it's normal.

I'm with you, bro. I have the exact same thing happening - I'm about to get into the config files (if I can) and see if anything is tweakable.

I've posted screenshots, which you can view here: http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1007

I'm using my Samsung DLP 50" TV as my monitor and I've had no problem running anything in widescreen (Doom3, FarCry, Psychonauts, Riddick, etc.) at the resolution 1248x702, which I achieve with Powerstrip. But with San Andreas, the highest res I can select is 960x702. There has got to be a way to set this manually or something...

Does anyone have any info on using controllers with San Andreas? I have a PS2 and XBox controller hooked up to my PC and while it will allow me to assign buttons...from either one, I can't get it to map movement controls to the analog or digital sticks...it's totally bizarre.

Hmm...so I couldn't reassign them, but the sticks are working...weird...

and I have it set to 960x720 and with widescreen on, it looks good...although at AA level 3 there is some weird skipping of the cop car during the opening scene...going to try different settings to see what's up with that...although I hear ATI has new drivers coming out soon with some good speed bumps...hopefully they aren't just DX9 related.

Turing on that widescreen in options cuts off A LOT of viewing area, otherwise I'd use that.

Widescreen doesn't work at all for me! I have a custom system with two 17 inch TFT-displays linked together to create a 2560x1024 picture, and San Andreas only lists resolutions from 640x480 to 1024x768. When I switch to one-display mode it lists all the resolutions. I guess it's about the aspect ratio, then? The game just doesn't like it and doesn't even bother to stretch the image like Vice City and all the other games do? When I enable the widescreen mode, the image is still 1024x768 but obviously streched to it from some 16:9 resolution.

So, heeelp please! I love the game, but it just doesn't work widescreen :(
