I recenlty purchased a new rig, and a Viewsonic VX2025WM that supports 1680x1050 resolutions at 60-75hz. I have been having a few issues with games running at 1680x1050, and windows itself running at 75hz, which the monitor should support - I am using a DVI cable as well.

First off when I switch the desktop resolution at 1680x1050, it runs fine at 60hz. When I swap it to 75hz I get a out of range message on the monitor and it reverts back to 60hz. I am guessing with this issue I just have to run it at 60hz even though the monitor says it supports 75hz.

There are some other issues I cant seem to figure out as well, mainly with HL2/DoD:Source and Battlefield 2. When I try to run battlefield 2 at 1680x1050 it says out of range - even when I have read that other people with this monitor have run the game in that resolution.

When I try to run HL2 or Day of Defeat Source in 1680x1050 I get weird scambling artifacts through out the screen, no out of range error from the monitor but instead just a big scrambled mess of colors - making it unplayable.

I am not sure what the issue is, if it is a issue with the monitor or something I am not thinking of. I have looked around and cannot find much help on the monitor I have just purchased. Any help on this issue would be greatly appreciated, I just have to expierience the widescreen goodness in gaming.

Thanks,

Skedel

I recently installed my graphics card into another system for some testing, and when I put it back I got a lot of weird OOR errors too, as well as weird artifacts and crashes afterwards. Graphics drivers or monitor drivers or settings weren't the problem - something with the card was fucked. Luckily taking it out and reinserting it cautiously did the trick for me. Could've maybe been the DVI cable too, *shrug*.

But yeah, that was just me. Your problem may very well have a different problem. Any hardware problems I have seem to always be of the very strangest sort. Like having two completely different motherboards of mine suddenly having corrupt BIOS checksums on the same day... O_o

Only CRT displays need more than 60hz refresh. There is no advantage in a 75hz refresh or higher for LCD screens. The number is there just to convince the computer the screen is there. You will notice no difference. So just stick with 60hz.

Most new monitors only work at 60hz.

This is probably the solution to your problem. Stay at 60hz.

I figured it out with much time spent tinkering.

The issue was that I had 2xQ AA enabled on the desktop, this was causing issues when games were played ay 1680x1050, any other setting worked like a charm.

Learn something new everyday, stay away from 2xQ AA!
