I recently discovered this gem of a game but there is a surprising dearth of information about running it on a widescreen monitor. It isn't on the Master Game List and I searched for a solution on the forums but found none. Does anyone know if it is even possible to get it running in widescreen format?

I tried, but unlike Civ 2 it doesn't run at the desktop res, and unlike Civ 3 there isn't an .ini edit that works. :(

But the .ini file doesn't behave the same way as the Civ 3 one does. I'd be happy for you to prove me wrong, but I spent a while trying and got nowhere...

The readme.txt in the game folder says that the "Alpha Centauri.ini" file can be edited using the following commands:

"DirectDraw=0
Setting this to 0 disables DirectDraw. This disables the automatic window resolution resizing during program launch.

Video Mode=800 or Video Mode=1024
This forces the screen resolution to either of these two sizes."

Does this help any?

Maybe. I'll have to find my copy and have a play.

From the sounds of it, though, you set the res based on a 4:3 system... Hm... :|

Not had a chance to test it. Been too busy with work.
