It's not going to happen guys. It's a 2D game, it's very likely not possible to make it widescreen without redoing all of the artwork in the game.

It's not like a 3D game where the image is essentially constructed from scratch in the PC and then you're just showing more or less of it to make the game widescreen. With a 2D game you're basically using pre-drawn pictures and if the pictures were designed as 4:3 aspect, you can't display parts of a picture that aren't there.

It's just like how in many 3D games, when running widescreen, the 2D artwork (hud, menus, etc) is stretched even though the 3D parts are the correct aspect.

Your best bet is to play it windowed or use your video card scaling to play it pillarboxed if your screen doesn't support 4:3 resolutions natively without stretching.

Isn't Rise of Nations similar to it though?

I'd like to know too, thanks.

RON is like a 3D game, there is lots of 2D art in it, but it's rendered under DirectX 3D engine. The ground and stuff is 3D, the characters are just 2D textured images loaded on top of wireframes. Look at Darwinia (from Introversion), same thing, cept it's a LOT more noticeable. The characters are not drawn to appear 3D or be wrapped around a wireframe, they're just there to float around a bit.
