Hi,

I'm trying to play some Warcraft 3 in 1280*1024 with black bars all around (not stretched).
I got a Dell 2209wa and a 8800GTS. My Video card driver is set to "do not scale". The "wide-mode" settin on the Monitor is set to "fill".

If i start any other game with this settings i will get the resolution in it's original size. 640*480 for example looks quite small, but that's fine with me. The resolution is 1:1 with black bars all around an in the correct aspect ratio.

When running WC3 I have black bars all around the image, too. but it's still in 16:10 ratio (streched).

Settin the video card driver to "use NVIDIA scaling with fixed-aspect ratio" the image is still streched, but i have black bars only on top and bottom. This is really wierd, because normally this setting causes the image to use the full height of the monitor and and vary the with depending on the resolution. (This results in a large but slightly streched image).

The only solution I found this far is to set the monitor to 4:3 in the OSD. (image is not streched and has black bars all around, just what I want)
I rather woud have this done automatically (like in every other game).
Can anybody help?
Thanks

What happens if you use this setting while playing WC3 at 1024x768?

I get a streched picture with black bars on the top and bottom of the screen. In any other game i get an (almost) 1:1 picture with black bars left and right.

And this happens with every single resolution you've tried?

Here are some screenshots:

Diablo with "use NVIDA scaling with fixed-aspect ratio":

Diablo with "do not scale:

WC3 with "use NVIDA scaling with fixed-aspect ratio":

WC3 with "do not scale: (hard to see on the picture, but it's still streched)

WC3 with 4:3 set in the OSD: (this is what I want, but without having to press 10 buttons every time i start/quit/alt+tab the game):

I'm not sure what you mean by this.

WC3 is the only game that behaves strangely. All others work fine, like Diablo.

Ok, here is the solution how to force Warcraft 3 to start with 4:3 aspect ratio:

(drumroll please)

open the registry and go to

"HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareBlizzard EntertainmentWarcraft IIIVideo"

set the key "refresh rate" from 75 to 60. Now the scaling set in the video card driver works correct. (I set mine to do not scale, so I got black bars all around and a crisp 1280*1024 resolution in 4:3).
