Thought I'd post a link to this thread for those wanting some form of "widescreen" in older quake-2 engine games (specifically, Daikatana, Soldier of Fortune I, and Kingpin):

The thread describes the hex values you need to change in the games' respective executables to enable widescreen resolutions in-game on a permanent basis. I was able to get 1280x720 in the three games listed above. All three suffer from menu oddities but in-game look fine (HUD elements appear where they should, etc). I'm not sure if I'm getting 1280x720 "stretched" or if they're actually hor+, as I'm not sure how to take screenshots for comparison, but frankly don't care since 1280x720 stretched still looks better than the 800x600 I was forced to run before (my widescreen TV won't do 1024x768). I'm guessing stretched since I haven't messed with any FOV settings on any of these games.

Thanks for the tip. This trick works in Kingpin but unfortunately it's vert-. I think I'll stick to 1600x1200 4:3...
