Simple question

Was 3x1 Portrait mode working with Crossfire and Eyefinity?

I have had mixed results between dx9 and dx10 games with only dx10 games working in 3x1 P mode. Dx9 games simply will never use the other GPU. 3x1 landscape mode = xfire. I a, just looking for anyone to confirm if the issue is universal or simply my setup.

I am using a 5970, but also tried trifire with a 5870.

All background has been done(driver switching, clean installs etc)

Games Tested

Company of Heroes
Borderlands
Source Engine Games (HL2, L4D)

Thanks for any answers :)

You know, I may have that same issue. I was seeing an add drop in fps on the Heaven demo when I ran it in 3x1-P in DX9 (but it scaled well in DX10 and DX11). I didn't pay it any mind as it was one number out of many.

I might have seen the same issue in in HL2 when switching to portrait, but either it never liked CFX to start with or was largely CPU bound to start with.

Not in any driver that I have yet, but you might try this:
There was a leaked early 10.5 cat release today does it have 5x1 eyefinity support? I can't really tell without an eyefinity 6.

Driver version is 8.73 and it has a new CCC.

Yeah I highly monitored the issue with GPU-Z and had the crossfire logo active to see when Xfire kicked on.

At least someone else may be having the same issues.

Looks like ATI has been focusing a ton on Landscape mode for eyefinity and not as much for Portrait. Here is hoping that they address it in the future.

I really need Xfire to add dynamic shadows for Borderlands :D

I'm surprised there would be a difference between P and L for CFX. Honestly, I'm not sure how much testing ATI has done on it, as P hasn't been near as popular or the near the focus. I'm also surprised that Kyle at HardOCP hadn't find this.

How do you get the logo to activate?

While I want to see it fixed (as it will surely be a benefit to 5x1-P), as few notes/comments:
* I thought COH had a DX10 mode?
* Surprised that Borderlands is DX9
* Do any Source Engine games really need CFX? I haven't played L4D or L4D2, but the HL2 games blow through the benchmarks for me.

Left 4 dead 2 is probably the most graphics intensive. At 5300 x 1050 max quality 2 x AA it struggles to stay at 76 FPS to match Vsync and has some dips on some maps with an overclocked 5850 or stock 5870. It seems to have no trouble staying at 60 though

Performance did go up again with the 10.5 beta. Also they made some changes with refresh rate control (might not need modified EDID now but didnt test properly) Possibly 120HZ monitors will work now in eyefinity. They added video acceleration and conversion options to the advanced CCC. Powerplay now functions correctly 400 core 1200 memory is locked when using multiple monitors even when overclocked. Using single monitor reduces it to 157 300. The flickering is completely gone now when overdrive or afterburner is applying an overclock.

I PMed Kyle at the Hardforum and never got a response :-/

Right click on the ATI logo on the task bar ->ATI Radeon HD5xxx Series ->Crossfire Settings ->Show Crossfire Status Icon

It does and when enabled it works perfectly. In DX9 mode crossfire doesn't function.

* Surprised that Borderlands is DX9

So was I and its annoying because it is the game I play most at the moment and really could use the boost of crossfire to finish off the eye candy. It is a very inefficient game w/ ATI cards.

No not really. It was just a test case of games I had installed on my computer. HL2 w/ the fakefactory cinematic mode could benefit from crossfire to crank the AA higher.

Thanks for the info. I'll fire up my logo and double-check on this end. Will send it to my contacts at ATI, and send Kyle an email. We've traded a few over the last couple months since Eyefinity launched.

CrossFireX doesnt work with Dx9? Is this in general or just with specific games?
