I have a 5970 at the moment, was just wondering what your thoughts would be on selling this and replacing with 2 x 6870 ?

Or,should i wait for the 69xx cards to arrive ?

I would wait for the HD69xx ones, at the very least.

I have a HD4870x2 in another PC and it still compares well to my HD5870. So if you accept that the HD68xx are actually 67xx in terms of placement, then you are kind of going to get much further from doubling up two HD69xx in future, or buying a single HD6990 (dual gpu version). If I were desperate for more throughput in the near future, it's what I'd do.

Wait a bit for the 6900s, or whatever nVidia's response will be. :)

Pretty much as I thought really......

From what ive seen,2 x 6870 don't out perform 2 x 5870,because there aimed more at the the mid range market.

And,as you can see I already made the descision to go for 1 x 5970 instead of 2 x 5870 anway.......

So will wait for the proper replacement for the 5870 to come out,and will also look at the dual gpu version as well.

Thanks...

2x 6870 perform just under 2x 5870, but better than 2x 5850 (and your 5970 is basically 2x 5850). Only reason I would make that upgrade is if you were perfectly happy with the performance, but wanted to reduce your power/heat/noise.

However, I would still wait until the info on the 6950/70/90 come out next month, so you can make a better educated decision.

agreed - I bought 1 6870 to replace my 2 GTX 275s (2xGTX275 = GTX 295 ~ 5870 wish is 5% more powerful than a 6870)
As soon as the 6900 series card comes out 6870 will go up on craigslist and I'll get the 6900 series card

It is not true that the 5870 crossfire outperforms the 6870 crossfire. As a matter of fact it is the opposite. As a single card configuration, the 5870 is a faster card, but not by much, but in crossfire, the 6870 beats the 5870 due to much better scaling. If you don't believe me, check out the benchmarks all over the internet. I just picked up a pair of 6870's for my rig, and wil never look back.

From what ive been reading,2 x 6870 beats my 5970 fair and square.

I currently game at 1920 x 1080 across 3 screens and as you know this eats GPU processing power, and obviously
I want as much graphic eyecandy on as possible.

Now that the 6870 has been our for a little whilte, would you say it achieves a significant increase in performance over
my 5970,or should i still wait for 69xx.

A pair of 6870's will probably set me back about £360.00 and i will probably get £300 for my 5970........what do you think ?

If you're going to have the money for the 69xx series, wait for that. If not, and you can sell your 5970 for a decent price, it'd be faster, but whether or not it'd be worth it, is up to you.

If money's not a huge object, and you want as much horsepower as possible for 3x 1920x1080 screens, waiting for the 69xx is probably the best idea. For me, I was on a budget so I went with 2x 6870's upgrading from a single 4890.

Ok,the 6970's are here and they look good.........so might it be worth getting 2 of these babies to replace my 5970 ?

I've had a look at the review and in some instances 1 x 6970 beats my 5970 ?

So 2 x 6970 in crossfire shoud be good !

Even though I could wait for 6990 to arrive, the bettings are that this will we clocked slighly lower at 6950 clock speeds ?

Never has 2 card crossfire setup before, and am a little worried about heat power consumption.
