I have a 6970 and with the help of wagoo was able to get it running 5x1 using the 11.8 preview drivers and 5 27" monitors... in the pic you'll see two monitors to the right that are black i attempted to run these off a secondary eah3450 and eyefinity picked them up in the combo and killed my 5x1 setup... how can i run these two extra monitors on a separate card... should i use an Nvida card maybe the catalyst wont pick it up?

please offer suggestions thanks... i build websites for a living and testing them on these widescreens to see what the backgrounds look like would be awesome.

In theory, so long as you don't enable crossfire between the card you want to run the 2 other monitors off and the one your eyefinity setup is on, you should just be able to add another ATI card and connects the monitors to that. Mixing and matching Nvidia and ATI cards and drivers can be tricky, but it should be possible too.

Ya thats what i thought hehe... i simply plugged in the vga and dvi cable from the extra two monitors into the second card (not crossfire) and bam the catalyst driver added it to the selection of monitors and forced errors into my 5x1 setup... :( ill attempt it again this evening and post a pic of what happens when i plug them in ... right now im actually doing work on the system lol.

I have (currently) two 5870's crossfired for eyefinity (3x1) setup. They are the 'vapor-x' type that can only output to 3 monitors (not the eyefinity-6 editions).

I also wanted to be able to have another monitor outside of my existing crossfire eyefinity setup (basically, just a 4th extended for TS and hardware monitoring).

I tried several USB vga solutions that didn't work. They would always interfere with drivers and cause BSOD once a game was launched.

I am creating a custom case mod solution to be able to have 3 5870 vapor-x models together in crossfire, and I have available PCI (not pci-express) to try and get a 4th extended monitor going.

I ordered this one from newegg, because it is a PCI slot card with DX11, and should share drivers with my existing 5870s.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814131436

My parts should be all arriving today and I'll work on setting everything up over the weekend. My idea was that I could use the 3x 5870s in cross-finity, with the PCI card running a 4th extended display.

I really hope that I am able to make this work and not have the 4th display on the PCI card get "picked up" and forced into the eyefinity group. I was under the impression that you could select which monitors wound up into the eyefinity group, is this not the case?

I will be using the 11.8 drivers and will tinker around with it over the weekend. I googled and researched a lot about having a 4th extended monitor + crossfire/eyefinity and didn't find much help. So, I hope that this thread and my experiment will at least help others who have the same goal/issue as me.

I'll toss this in as something to think about:

It may work out easier to just add a separate low power machine to serve these monitors, and then link the two desktops using Synergy.

Personally I keep one machine just for gaming, and have secondary inputs on each monitor served by other machines. So I have a work mode and a game mode that I can quickly switch between, without worrying about any game related crashing, or work stuff slowing down the game.

In theory the 2 ati cards should work fine, maybe catalyst has detected the addtional screens and you just need to re tweak the eyefinity profile.

However if it helps, my ATI and Nvidia combo works flawlessly, I infact use my ATI card to render games, and my Nvidia card as a dedicated PhysX card for games which gives me an addtional performance boost for any games that use the PhsyX stuff.

Although to achieve this to enable the phsyx support on the nvidia card I do have to use a tweaked nvidia driver as nvidia disable phsyx when the drivers detect anything but an nvidia card in the system, inc onboard intel etc.
You can find the tweak here.

I have a 5970 for my 3 display eyefinity setup. Then I have a nvidia 250gts that I use for physx.

I have been using the tritton see2 uv150 usb external vga video card for over 1 year now. In fact I am using two of them as I have five dell p2210 monitors.

I do NOT plug in any monitors into the nvidia gpu.
I also had issues with the tritton usb card but I found it was a tritton driver issue. There are 3 versions of the drivers that are newer than mine but none of them work.

If you use the 10.01.0105 whql drivers everything is perfect. The key to these drivers is that they do NOT show up in the windows display section at all.

As I am typing this I have my main three screens in eyefinity at 3318x1680 in portrait mode using hydragrid and two other screens extended with my TS3, coretemp widget, clock, steam friends and msi afterburner running on the other 2 screens using the two trittons. They are not any good for video or anything like that but they are great for ts window and monitoring software. Just use the above drivers.

You would need the see2 xtreme uv200 model though as the 150 only does 1680x1050. the uv 200 does 1920x1200 max res. You would use the 9.04.1204. drivers. The ones that add display arrangement to win 7 are bad for eyefinity. I have not tried these drivers though: only the ones for the uv150. But the release date is within a few days of each other for the drivers that work on the uv150 and the ones for the uv200.

You can look here for the drivers if interested.

I have been using these since may 2010.

Using win 7 64bit btw.

Good luck!

Well, I spent a lot of time over the weekend trying to get an eyefinity setup (3x1 landscape) + extended 4th monitor via a PCI dx11 5400 series card.

It worked great for simple extended desktop mode, but I could have done this with my existing setup (2x toxic 5870 vapor-x). When trying to do crossfire/eyefinity + extended 4th monitor, my third EF screen on the right (connected to the active displayport adapter) would reproduce a garbled mirror of the leftmost screen.

As I kept tinkering around, trying to get it to work, I would eventually be able to produce a BSOD as the driver timed out.

I spent several hours trying to work through the issues and use different drivers, but no luck.

So I took the PCI card out, did a fresh driver wipe/reinstall (11.8/cap3) and everything is working like normal again ... just still no 4th extended monitor + eyefinity.

I guess I am going to just throw in the towel. Looks like I'd need one of the eyefinity-6 edition cards to be able to have an extended 4th/5th/6th monitor + eyefinity.

Hey guys, I've been looking around for other possibilities. The only slots I have available are regular old PCI.

Is it possible to have BOTH nvidia and ati drivers installed?

Could I have catalyst 11.8 installed, and the latest nvidia drivers for this card:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814133364

I really don't want to give up on my idea of 3x1 crossfire/eyefinity display + an extended 4th monitor.

Does anyone think this might work? How would this affect the eyefinity display group creation? Would the 4th monitor just not show up in the CCC? Then I just use windows display manager to move the 4th (nvidia) monitor around the large 5760x1200 "single" display that windows sees?

Thanks to anyone who can help.
