There are some FOV fixes by 1nkz and adjustment techniques available at the No-Grip forum.

I've been tweaking the FOV and camera position myself and I'm happy with the way I currently have it. I sit a bit high up in the car, but any lower and I can't look to the sides. Link to a video below. Unfortunately I didn't use the correct exposure so the track is very bright.

you put it into the car/lo0 folder, be sure to backup the original camera.xml file.

I've added an extra camera, hicockpit-cam. This gives you a higher perspective, but also lets you use trackir if you have it. It seems that you are unable to pull the camera back along the Z axis to see the mirrors and steering wheel while having the camera properties set to 'head' so trackir works.

I've also edited the T-bar cam so it doesn't clip on a triple screen setup.

Wow, you've made it so you can use the TrackIR on a higher cockpit cam? That's brilliant! I have a TrackIR but can't normally use it on the view I want. Will try this tonight.

This has pretty much been an issue since GRID. Possibly even before then, but GRID was the first game I really got serious about racing games with, and after GTR2/Evo... it's painfully obvious when one of these does something underhanded with the AI. :(

This is depressing. With 5760x1080, the game looks fine with a centered HUD. But with bezel compensation the HUD is messed up.

Edit: Fixed it by altering the bezel compensation. I also got the FOV changed, so now it looks so much better.


How did you manage to fix the hud using bezel compensation?

Nevermind got the hud fixed.

Yeah the AI is shocking.

A good example of the phony AI / rubber banding is in qualifying.

I go out as soon as qualy starts, I set a 1:41 early and Jarno pips me by 0.108 sec late in the session, we qualified 18th and 19th.

I restart the session, and sit in my pit box until there is 3 mins to go, Sebastian Vettel style. At this point, Jarno is in 20th with a 1:43. I set another 1:41 in the dying seconds and the session ends with me in 13th with the same time I set before, and Jarno hasn't come near the time he set before and finishes 20th.

And it's repeatable.

For some of us, the sense of achievement comes knowing you have worked towards something and achieved it fairly, not through having to work around a bunch of glitches. For example, no amount of fine tuning your car will move you up the grid in qualifying as much as waiting in the pit lane until the end of the session and posting a lap so late that the AI can't rubber band the results in time. That, to me, stinks.

You have to plan every single session you participate in to avoid the glitches, nothing else. For example, waiting late in qualifying to avoid the unfair rubber banding, timing your pit stop in the race not for any sort of tyre strategy, but rather when you think you won't get stuck in the pit lane forever.

I was wanting F1 2010 quite a lot, but I can't be bothered with more of the same GRID/DiRT2 rubber banding BS AI.

So I found a second hand copy of Geoff Crammond's Grand Prix 4 (last good PC F1 game) and hopefully that'll run OK. It might look a bit long in the tooth, but if I want pretty, I can always pick up F1 2010 when it's a fiver in the (presumably) not too distant future...

Real time self-adjusting difficulty seemed to work well in the Max Payne shooters. I guess the equivalent of that auto-difficulty for a racing game is rubber-banding, scripted AI behavior, and altered lap times for AI to give gamers a continuous on-screen challenge in a casual way. It seems that its disadvantages include putting off gamers who want or expect AI timing and behavior accurately modeled after real world timing and on-track performance.

I prefer realistic, high fidelity simulation racing with accurate force feedback offered by other titles. F1 2010 seems to appeal to a different group of gamers. One of F1 2010's strengths is high quality visuals, though.
