Hi guys, Don't talk much here but I do come here to do my research. Planning my first desktop build in ages (let's just say my current desktop is a single-core CPU and 8x AGP!, so you could say the time has come). So I am planning my new rig probably going all AMD this time around (AMD Phenom 6-core, Asus Formula IV board, 2x4GB 1600 RAM), and I want to go the Eyefinity route with three displays. Since my game is flight simulation and I'm going with a high-end single GPU 5870. So here's the question: The most displays I plan to use are three. If I go more I would add a second 5870. So I am thinking of the Asus ROG 5870 is a 3-port but has 2GB RAM which I would think would help multiple display setups? Or should I go with a 2GB 6-port version? Seems I am reading here issues with display port cables, compatibilities, flickering, costs, things like that so maybe is would be easier and cheaper to just go with a 3-port and use proven DVI and HDMI connections. What da ya think? Clutch |

If you want to avoid display port problems go with GTX 460 in SLI with 2GB or ram, its significantly quicker than a 5870 and you get to use 3xDVI monitors, its just that simple. The 5870 (3port) still requires a Displayport connection, the card has 2xDVI,1x HDMI and 1x Displayport, you can use any combination but one of the displays HAS to be connected to the Displayport interface. The next point is why a AMD x6 the performanace is very poor, take a look over at http://www.tomshardware.co.uk in their system builder for September and you will se a Core i5 750 beats it hands down, and its the same cost. you can ignore cores over 4 as no current game utilises them. Only reason to go more cores/threads is if you are using professional software like Adobe CS4. Just take a look over at Tom's and all will be clear ta ya just my 2c Honiara |
