Post subject: | 7970 Driver issue??? |
Hey guys, I'm running 2 7970s in crossfire and I think I may have a driver issue... just wanted to run it by you guys to see what you thought. Basically Everything runs fine but once in a while the display freezes for what can only be a second and then carries on. In racing games it's particularly noticable because you can travel a long way in 1 second. I'm running an i7 870 at 4ghz roughly and I've tried various things regarding this overclock... e.g. removed the OC, re calibrated the OC... etc. I dont think its the CPU as I know CPU usage is never maxed out. Any ideas? Just to confirm my FPS is always great. 60 fps +. Some games I'm getting closer to 100fps @ res of 6144 x 1152 |

What game is it? Not Need For Speed Shift 1 by any chance? hehe This title used to do a similar thing on my rig when I was on just a single card, turned out to be the game but a community 'overhual mod' fixed it. |

Post subject: | Just assuming you tried to |
Just assuming you tried to disable one of your 7970s, you lucking bastard lol, then I had the same problem as you with my 7970. I was getting these weird jumps, freezes, and stutters. I looked at some in game graphs to see what is spiking and I noticed that my CPU was spiking which was followed by the GPU. The GPU shouldn't have been spiking I thought to myself so I thought that maybe the drivers I downloaded straight from AMD instead of using the driver disk that came with it the card was the problem. I unistalled the drivers, ran driver sweeper, and installed the driver disks drivers, Sapphire's disk BTW, and the card stopped spiking and stuttering/freezing and ran smooth. My CPU still spiked but that's because my Phenom II x4 is about to fry and I'm just trying to milk it until ivy bridge comes to the lga 1155 platform. Hope this helps |

Post subject: | Hey delphium,Thanks for the |
Hey delphium, Thanks for the advice the other day. Removing RAID and copying the steam directory did help a lot. As for it being shift 1.... almost. It's Shift 2. I get weird stuff going on in other games too. Dead Island... Game flickers like mad and then restarts my machine (only it doesn't restart it's just a black screen) Battlefield Bad Company 2 - Game flickers like mad Other games seem ok or may have spiking. Also actual cards are really hot. GPU-Z says the temps are are around 60 but when I remove the card it's hot to touch. Never noticed a card being like that before. |

Post subject: | lol, go to the Microwave, put |
lol, go to the Microwave, put in a glass of water, heat it till 60°C, (be sure to check with a thermometer) and put in your finger! I'm kinda sure it's HOT! what driver's are you using ? 8.921.5 ? But hey... 60°C Core Temp aren't hot! 90°C is hot! Oh, and just me wondering... did you watch VRAM usage while gaming? could you give me a little summary of which game uses how much Memory ? (can be seen in GPU-z) doesn't need to be accurate, just roughly. |

Post subject: | I'm using driver |
I'm using driver 8.921.2 found here from the AMD site http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles/Pages/RC11Driver.aspx When I looked for 7970 this is the only one that turned up. I also installed the 12.1 caps as well. As for more detail on temps and mem usage .... here it comes in a few minutes... |

Post subject: | If you have an overclock on |
If you have an overclock on your card and you run Eyefinity, you have about 99% chance to run into problems apparently. You should always disable the overclock, and then do the tests. But the thing we're looking for is any fluctuation in the clock speeds etc. That will indicate any problems if I guessed right what the problem is. |
