No luck. I followed your steps exactly. Using other variations of drivers I was at least able to test the custom resolutions. With the setup you have, it just says test failed before even trying.

This really sucks. I just bought three 24" monitors and built a new PC for the sole purpose of using TH2GO at 5040.

Off I go to try, try again.

Firstly I'd like to thank THE1REBEL for the post. :D

Very useful in solving my display issues. I've been putting off upgrading to Windows 7, as I had previously read there were issues in obtaining 5040x1050. Last weekend I finally took the plunge. I didn't expect it to be easy as I had problems with "out of range" errors when I first set-up TH2GO in Vista x64.

I soon ran it problems with the resolution and spent a long time (too long) playing around with this and that. I then came across THE1REBEL's post and thought I'd give it a go. I followed the procedures to the letter (All except Step Seven). Unfortunately, as other have mentioned, at the end of it I was only able to achieve 4320x900 and not the magic 5040x1050.

I confess at this point I could have cried. Through my pain and frustration I decided to try the Vista settings instead of the Windows 7 (I guess the only difference is the Refresh Rate of 56 Hz instead of 57 Hz)

and as if by magic 5040x1050...Nirvana...

Now oddly Nvidia's Software reports the refresh rate as 55Hz as does Windows 7 - The GXM reports is at 57 Hz, And the only thing that is not quite right is the lack of Thumbnail previews on the taskbar. All other aspects of AERO appear to be functioning.

If I reduce the resolution down to 4320x900 they return. However subsequent downgrading the matrox firmware has not solved the problem as alluded to in THE1REBEL's initial post.

I guess as I have 5040x1050 I can live with out the pretty preview and stick will dull old text. As I have wiped the system I've not had the opportunity to try any games yet. And I'll probably play around with it a little more to see if I can get AERO fully functioning.

The system I'm currently using is:

Asus P6T Deluxe
iCore 7 920
6GB Ram
2 x Nvidia GTX 260
3 x LG L226WtQ-PF 22"
Windows 7 x64
TH2GO

*UPDATE*
Just upgraded to Nvidia 195.62
Computer did not require restart, and resolution reduced to 3820 x 1024. However custom res 5040x1050 still listed in Nvidia control panel. I selected it to add it to the resolution list. At first it did not appear. I then selected 4320 x 900 from the custom list and was able to select in on the main page. 5040 x 1050 then appeared and I was able to select that too.

Now 5040x1050 with Nvidia 195.62 (In the words of David Pratt...How cool is that?)

*Update 2*
Since my last edit, in my WISDOM I decided how about starting again to see if I could repeat what I had done. Big mistake. I wiped the system and started from a blank canvas. I managed to get back to 4320x900 as before but I have had no joy again with 5040. I'm not sure what I'm not doing, but the stupid thing just isn't playing ball. See this is what you get when you're not satisfied with your lot and get greedy.

*Update 3*
Ok now back to 5040x1050 with Nvidia 190.62 I'm not sure what was causing the problem. I completely failed to create the 5040 custom res after my system wipe. I ended up installing 191.07 and had no luck there. I un-installed 191.07 and on restart Windows picked up 109.62 again. I tried the custom res again and first time there it is. I'm now asking myself do I try 195.62 again.

*Update 4
Upgraded to 195.62 again with no problems... Happy again now...will leave it alone. Only thing left to do is to install a game or two and see what happens.

Well, I was able to get 1440x900 (thank you!), using this method, but still no 1680x1050. Tried the solution TO THE LETTER. Just FYI.

Anyone know why the screen goes black when testing the custom resolution of 5040x1050?
After a short while I see the GXM logo, and then it jumps back to the desktop and claims the test failed.

W7 x64, GTX 295, 195.85 Beta.
