ok so HUGE thanks to mattsimis for a similar posting with a working download link:

http://www.matrox.com/graphics/en/support/drivers/download/?id=331

however now works with my monitors acer x193w+ but shows big black horizontal blank spots -

http://uploadgeek.nl/files/xygtxktgab0ouzh3sdf9.jpg

im currently using vga cables with dvi adapters cuz my original dvi cables wont even display anything, so vga/dvi adapters it is. another thing i tried - using both heads on my 4870X2 (both dvi dual link outputs), no success.
then.. tried manually adjusting the placement in acer menu, still no success, it just moves it as a small short framed display.

please if theres anyone that knows a workaround/fix to this, id appreciate it!!!

just another step to success tho guys!! thanks again mattsimis for the working link to new firmware.

That looks like incorrect image scaling by either the card or panel. Cant recall what its called on the ATI settings, but on nV cards you can goto:

"Change Flat Panel Scaling" and then choose:
-Use Nvidia Scaling
-Use Nvidia Scaling with Fixed Ratio
-Use Displays Scaling
-Do not scale

Try rotate those settings. What resolution and refresh is that at (I assume the new 5040@59hz mode)? If you are handy with Display Timings you could try PowerStrip and have a look through the detailed settings.

Incidentially I have the new FW on my TH2G. No difference so far the NVidia cards/drivers wont even try 59hz.

nope.

just tried:

Image Scaling (ticked and unticked)
- Maintain aspect ratio
- Scale image to full panel size
- Use centered timings

DVI Settings:

- Reduce DVI frequency on high-resolutions displays (ticked and unticked)
- Alternate DVI operational (ticked and unticked)

also, both reduce dvi freq. and alternate dvi operational ticked and unticked

tried Powerstrip but still kept the same horizontal blank spots, tried restarting after every tick, tried DVI cables with ticks, no display with DVI cables.

im assuming its my acer monitors cuz they do fall under problem catagory, then again at 59hz with 5040x1050 res, it shows a display so it has to work.. at 57hz 5040x1050 i get no display.

either my acer monitors or the 4870x2 with beta catalyst 9.7 drivers??

no giving up, im determined to make this work, maybe i'll be patient and wait for official catalyst 9.7 release instead of using beta but we'll see, thanks again mattsimis, we will make this happen!!

The "NEW" firmware states that you use the power desk 2.05? Run the Compatibility test and I beleave it will instruct you to use the 2.05 power desk not the Beta!.

Driver and software page:
http://www.matrox.com/graphics/en/support/gxm/software/?os=2&product=71

Good luck trying to obtain 5040x1050 on 19" monitors!
