For all you users out there of ATI, how do you feel not being able to have physx?

especially for multi-monitor gaming because you just get to see so much more and so many effects

I am a current NV user and have PhysiX disabled, the only game I saw any benefits was Mirror's Edge, but that killed the FPS

My 5970 is on order and I won't miss PhysiX; and if I did I will plug in my 8800GTX and use the hack to get it. If it works that way, I am not sure

To add to Mach's list of games with PhysX worth having on: Batman: AA. But it really hurts the FPS without a dedicated physx card aswell.

PhysX would most definitely not be a factor in my card choice at all.

I care less about physics, as it never hinges on gameplay, just visual.

PhysX is only relevant in nitch use and markets. I'm not a FPS gamer, so it's largely irrelevant to me. I've yet to see it used effectively in the games I prefer, which are MMOs.

physX is nice for immersion
I saw a vid of mirror's edge with physX and I like it a lot

for me it's not on the same level as ordinary "pleasing visuals" (like oblivion back in the time ...)

physics effects in games in general allow your character to impact the environment. and this allows for more immersion... the player may feel like he impacts his environment

I always have this "dream" (since years ago)
of a game where you incarn a simple person of flesh and bones
in a "mechwarrior" type of war
you never leave the first person POV but you can drive any vehicle, from simple cars & trucks to helicopters & full weight mechs

that's the basic setup but what's particular in this dream is that everything would be destructable, entire cities of skycrapers to raze or erase if you feel so inclined...

however one has to remember that physX is just like .NET that is : libraries to ease a developper workload, nothing's prevent a game to include physics effects outside physX (except the workload/cost involved).

finally physX is nearing its end probably quite soon with DX11

Why ask those who are basically deprived of it ?
And why choose anyway ? You can get PhysX + Eyefinity. Just use a cheap GeForce (GT220...) as a PhysX-only addon card. Nvidia doesn't like it but there are tutorials out there ;)

Well PhysX has no impact on gameplay what so ever, so i don't really care.
Physics of this kind will just be a gimmick until it becomes open source.

I mean the list of games that actually use PhysX is just embarrassing.
Especially hardware accelerated physics, last time i looked it was lower than 10.

I would really like to see it take a more general form, I mean, if it could be implemented for all cards and didn't have such an adverse effect on the FPS than I think it would make a great effect for immersion and the like. I would love to see how this technology pans out in the future, maybe not Physx, but something similar.

maybe not Physx, but something similar.

hint : http://www.behardware.com/articles/770-9/report-amd-radeon-hd-5870-and-5850.html

Compute shaders

The final significant innovation introduced by Direct3D 11 is known as the compute shader or DirectCompute. [...]. Compute shaders have the advantage of being standardised and therefore directly supported on all compatible graphics cards[...]. The other advantage, mainly in version 5.0, is that they have been designed to interact efficiently with a 3D scene in DirectX, which simplifies usage for physics calculation or non-polygon geometry or even post processing effects [...]
To facilitate their introduction Microsoft hasn’t only added compute shaders at 5.0 but also 4.0 and 4.1, so as to give support on DirectX 10 and 10.1 generation graphics cards, with a few limitations of course.

more at the end of the page of the link.
