I would have thought the only way to be sure what resolution is being used would be to take a screenshot and see what size it is.
and ...
I don't have the game but is that really true that you should be more of the cockpit using 5040x1050 if it is utilizing it ... compared with 3840x800 ... ?
Both being 3 x 16:10.
Hi Paddy,
For IL2-1946,
I can select 3840x800 16:10 in my "edit mode list" and then select 3840x800 in my "SGU game optimizer". By doing this I get 3840x800 in game resolution.
or
I can select 3840x960 4:3 in my "edit mode list" (my computer will reboot and a message shows saying that windows vista is reconfiguring) then if I select 3840x960 in my "SGU optimizer" I get 3840x960 in game resolution.
I can tell that this is true and working because of the extra 160 of vertical view that I get helps my in game FOV. I can see a significantobvious amount more vertically!
This is why I am hell bent on trying to figure out how to get 5040x1050 to work. I would love to get yet another 90 of vertical view for my FOV.
In FSX I can not tell any difference between 3849x960 and 5040x1050. This is why I question if it is working as advertised.
Yesterday I thought if you optimized a resolution from the SGU and the gamesim would pull up, that meant it was working. But after looking a little closer I'm not so sure it actually is.
Yup, If you have 3840x800 in your 'Edit Mode List' in the Powerdesk software, vista classes this as the highest res 3x22" monitors can render in directx10 for some reason. In other words, the highest resolution you have in Edit Mode, is the highest you get in DX10 ingame (even though your desktop is displayed at 5040x1050). If you are running in DX10 mode ingame, I can pretty much guarantee it is not at that resolution. Note that you cannot have 5040x1050 in edit mode as it is a native resolution. In fact I am surprised triple widescreen resolutions are available at all in DX10? Are you certain it's not reverting to DX9 mode?
All these problems do not apply to DX9, whether in XP or Vista. Isn't that wonderful.
Khula, Will windows OS let you revert back to an older DX?
Sure would be nice if a Matrox tech person where in on these conversations..
