As some of you know i have been considering getting a TH2Go for a while now. Just as i was ready to buy it, i came across a thread in the Tech Support section, saying that ATI cards dont support 5040*1050, heck maybe not even 4320 * 900, which absolutely crushed my dream, now it seems that if i want to go with TH2Go, im gonna have to invest even more money on it, as i have to buy a nVidia card.

Anyways, i need excuses to actually invest all this money, instead of just sticking with SoftTH.

My main gripes with SoftTH is that:
1. Pain in the ass to get it to work
2. Performance is horrid.

If im gonna be getting the same performance out of Th2Go while gaming then i will just not get it, right now with SoftTH at 5040 * 1050, with an ATI 4870x2, Counter Strike Source and Team Fortress 2 stay between 30 - 40 fps, sometimes dropping to 15 fps or less, horrible gaming experience.

Can people with TH2Go and CSS and/or TF2, post their Frame per seconds while actually playing games at 5040 * 1050, the benchmarks tools included with them just plain lie, join a server and watch your fps.

To see your FPS open the console with "~" and type "cl_showfps 1"

Please include your specs in case you dont have them in your signature

Thank you, if you can post pictures it would be even better.

Note*: I want to know about Tf2 and CSS just to compare them with SoftTH, in reality i would like to know your performance with any game you have running at 5040 * 1050.

there is no performance loss with TH2Go its ONLY your card thats limiting the performance cause it has to render such a big frame but its definitely faster than Soft TH because theres no redirecting of the signal or what so ever

with a 4870x2 (which is one of the best cards out there at moment) you should get seriously mOOOAAAr fps

but the individual system specs are a the bottleneck

and btw http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/videos/css-surround-comp.php

Thanks for the link but i was looking to compare FPS speed with other people playing at 5040 * 1050. Even if they use other video cards, i just want to see how big the performance difference is.

And what do you mean Bottleneck, i can play pretty much every game now with the x2, i have been able to match my FPS to the ones reviewers get in benchmarks.

Anyways, let me know whats the bottleneck in my system??

bottleneck means ... if you have a killer gfx card and a slow cpu, then the cpu limits the gfx card thus reducing the max fps you can get out of it

and well i think this video helps since you can compare the resolutions

1280x1024=1.31megapixels -> ~162fps [assume this is 100% performance]
3840x1024=3.93megapixels -> ~28fps 17% of the performance left
5040x1050=5.29megapixels -> well less than 28fps ...

but keep in mind that this gfx card in that test was just a GF8800 GTS 512mb
with AA and AF to the max (wasting your frames as theres no tomorrow) so without the killer quality settings even in 5040x1050 the frame rate on this 8800GTS should be "playable" at around ~30fps maybe more

well with a 4870x2 you will be definetly be able to play TF2 or CS:S at high fps-rates in 5040x1050 (well if ATI would support widescreen)

anyways a GF9800X2 would do the job it gets good framerates in benchmarks running at 2560x1600(=4.0megapixel)

Look at his CPU. His CPU is not bottlenecking his system.

His question is a good one, and I have the same question.

Exactly how much better is TH2Go than SoftTH for running Team Fortress 2 at 5040x1050?

We all know that TH2Go is better because it doesn't have to mess around with the image. But we want to know approximately how much of a FPS bump we'd see if we upgraded from SoftTH to TH2Go.

Personally I'm running two 8800GTX cards in SLI and then a 8400GS for SoftTH and the side monitors, and last I checkd my fps never goes below 30, so I think I won't be spending money on the digital TH2Go.

i wasnt saying his cpu is ... i said IF his cpu is slow it would be a bottleneck

did i say his question is bad ? :shock:

well its a lot better just compare softh to th2go in 3840x1024
since i dont (not yet) use a th2go setup i cant tell exactly how much better it would be but i can tell its a lot - well a friend is using a 8800GT with DTH2Go and playing tf2 with no complain about low fps so iam assuming its more than 30fps

anyways if you dont want to get a DTH2Go your whole plan of playing in 5040x1050 is busted because the Analog version ONLY supports 4:3/5:4 resolutions (max 3840x1024)

Dunno if it helps, but here you can see a benchmark with the old TH2G resolutions, so you can see the great picture there :wink:

Yeah I know that it isn't what you asked for, but that is all the benchmark we have here.

I thought, in fact I am pretty sure, you cannot run multi monitor with SLI enabled. So if you are using that system your 2nd 8800GTX will be doing nothing..or have you hacked the drivers or something?

Actually, his 2 SLId 8800 act as one video card while the 8400 passes video to the other monitors, if you can cram 3 video cards in your system, it works :P, at least on SoftTH

So i guess no one here is running TF 2 at 5040 * 1050...

Vroshnak:

Can you please post a picture of TF2 running at 5040 * 1050 with the "cl_showfps 1" setting in a crowded area, im willing to change my entire system to a SLId motherboard and video cards if the fps is 60...
