Just wondering if, with the current power of the latest card (i.e. 8800gtx), whether there is still a requirement for an SLI system with the TH2Go.

I.e. are there still games that a single 8800gtx can't run well enough at the TH2Go resolutions to warrant getting another or would it just be better to wait for the next single card and it's corresponding bump up in power

I find a single 8800 is only just about good enough for the latest games ... at 3840x1024 ... with everything turned up to max.
Older games all run fine.

In SLi I do get quite a few more frames but not as many as I expected and I get a small amount of stuttering in SLi with most games (this stuttering is not there when not in SLi) ... it is most noticeable in R6 Vegas when going from room to room.

At this point I don't know if this is my rig or just that the drivers aren't optimised for SLi yet ... I suspect the latter.

With r6-Vegas for instance I still have to turn things down (shadows) ... :( and some minor effects are missing that I can see using my 7900's.
However ... with GRAW ... things seem to be well optimised and a single 8800 can run it at 3840x1024 everything at max ... no problem.

Hence I think the issues are a driver problem.

As each new card comes out there are usually new games out too that require even better cards to run them at max ... certainly at 3840x1024 ... and so you could wait forever if you get my meaning.

These days most games are "Future Proofed" and not so many are "Past Proofed" ... so to run the games at max at 3840x1024 they often require a card that is a generation on from the cards that are out when the games are released.

Benches showed that at high resolutiones the 8800gtx comes closer to a (more xpensive ) 8800gts system to when using a 8800 I would really recommend the GTX.
Reason for that is to my opinion the Vram size and 384bit connection.
