Post subject:  SLI hardware problem or me the problem???

Posted a few days ago regarding setting up my system, thanks again to all who posted replies, I appreciate it.

I started out with (3) 24" widescreens monitors (1920x1200), (1) EVGA 8800GT Superclocked Ed. and a TH2Go. However after using it for a while I wasn’t happy with the resolution the TH2Go. So I changed my system again and got an ASUS P5N-T Deluxe motherboard, Quad-Core 6600 2.4GHz, (3) EVGA 8800GT's Super Clocked ed. and SoftTH (but kept the TH2Go for FSX since I can’t seem to get it to run correctly with SoftTH). That setup seemed close to what I was looking for but still was not getting frame rates I thought I should while playing FSX and the screens still seemed a bit jerky.

So today I changed things once again (and probably not for the last time). I picked up (2) EVGA 8800GTX KO's. I was going to use SLI mode and then use TH2Go to see how much FSX improved. But for some reason the SLI mode isn’t being detected in the BIOS and the SLI Memory option has a value of NOT DETECTED and I can’t it. Boot XP Pro and the nVidia driver doesn’t reference SLI settings. So I’m either doing something wrong or something is wrong. I have the cards installed in PCI-E Slot #1 and #3 as the ASUS manual says to do. I have them corrected with the ribbon cable and to the SLI connector closest to back of the card slot.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

i'd suggest renewing the drivers, if you haven't done it yet. Deleting the old ones with a driver cleaner and getting a new one installed.

you might also try switching the SLI-bridge to the other connectors.

I'll try the driver thing later today... I did get from EVGA's website the latest drivers for the 8800GTX. But I loaded them over top the drivers I installed from the CD that came with the card. The driver on the website was dated 01-01-2008. So I know they are fairly new. I'll look around for a driver cleaner and try that later today. Late in the night I did get a few XP message that refered to "THe nv4_disp display driver has stopped working normally...." The system jsut froze and it was power on/power off. This only occured when using nVidia Control Panel or when in a game.

Thanks

Hey there, man you are spending some money! :0

Anyway, SLI memory in the BIOS has nothing to do with SLI. SLI memory is just another name for EPP (Extended Performance Profiles) if your RAM has this it will be available and your RAM will run slightly faster.
In the BIOS SLI is not working and will never be detected, SLI needs a driver to run and no drivers are running when you are in the BIOS, obviously.

So, get the latest NVidia driver, clean out the previous one and try that. If that doesn't work try the BETA driver (it is one of the options below the normal driver selection options on the 1st download page).

The NV4 error can happen if your cards are overheating or to far OC'd? Are they cool enough?
