I tried to look around first to get the answers, but I can't seem to find the answers for what I want to do...

I know that once you get to a certain resolution, you need a beefier card, but I thought there was a resolution limit with standard DVI (this card has 1 DVI and 1 VGA) to 2 LCD's, where you need to put in a Dual-Link DVI card and cables to make it work or is that just for ultra-high resolution displays that need Dual-Link into the display itself?

Goal: I definitely want to run a 3840x1200 Desktop spanned across the 2 24" displays (1920*2 x 1200). I currently am running 3360x1050 (1680*2 on 2 22"s), but wanted to make sure the extra pixels will work before I buy the 24"s (looking at 2 * Samsung 245BW's)

Bonus: That should let me run 2D and low-end 3D games at the same resolution as well, right? (On ATI's site it says max 3D resolution of 2048x1536, If I want higher maybe I can run SoftTH?)

Also, if I need a different card, any suggestions would be welcome...

Thanks for any and all help!

Craig

1920x1200 is below the maximum resolution for single-link DVI, so you do not need two dual-link DVI outputs or two cables to drive 2 monitors each at 1920x1200.

You will be able to span 3840x1200 just like you currently span 3360x1050.

I know from the TH2G that ATI's 1000 serries had issues with ultra-wide resolutions (would not run a TH2G at full res). The 2000 series fixed that though. I'm guessing that the 3000 series is OK.

As for max res off of one card: I know that 2 TH2G will even work on an AGP 6600GT in vertical span mode (for a total resolution of 3840*2048) - OK for 2D but no playable frame rates in 3D. You should not have any problems unless you have a 1000 series ATI card or Vista (which doesn't have any span modes).

Edit: As for games at that resolution - that depends a lot on the games you choose.

Thanks for the additional card-related info. That answers the rest of my question.

Thanks again,
