Post subject:  Dualhead2go + second DVI possible?

Hello all,

I'm a rather new german reader in search of some answers to my questions. But even after reading through a lot of threads there a few questions and a lack of clarity left. Therefore a thread for my own ;-)

Okay, as many others here before I'm thinking of a triple monitor setup. I want to construct a racing simulator/simracing frame. But it would be nice to use - for a better immersion - 3x 26" monitors instead of the common 3x 19" (3840x1024) or 3x 22" (5040x1050). Since Digital Triplehead2Go has its limitation at 5040x1050 I thought about using one Dualhead2Go (@ 3840x1200) and connect the third monitor to 2nd DVI output of the graphic card (@ 1920x1200).

Is it now possible to set the 3 monitors (2 connected via DH2G and one via 2nd DVI of graphic card) to Horizontal span in XP and use this triple monitor setup for playing 3D fullscreen games, like racing sims? In this way I could bypass the TH2G limitation in resolution (max. 5040x1050) and use the 26" screens (or 24") in their native resolution. Although I'm afraid SLI is not possible in this way (am I right?).

And if that doesn't work: Did anybody ever connect 3x 26" (native 1920x1200) to Triplehead2Go in 1680x1050? Is it feasible? How good is the picture quality of current monitors when extrapolating 1680x1050 to 1920x1200?

Thanks for your help and comments
Tom

Tom,

To successfully do a span both monitors need to have the same resolution.

With the DualHead2Go appearing (to Windows) as a single 3840X1200 monitor and the other single monitor being a 1920x1200. This setup will not allow spanning to occur. You would still be able to use all three monitors on the desktop in 2D but games will play either on the two monitors connected to the DH2Go or the single monitor direct connected to your video card whichever is primary.

I'm unsure on the scaling of the triplehead signal up to the size of the 26" panels. If you have access to a 26" panel the easiest way to see what it would look like is set 1680X1050 as your resolution on a single monitor and see how the scaling looks.

Your other option is to use SoftTH http://www.kegetys.net/SoftTH/ which is a software solution to the triple monitor problem. SofthTH is not limited to the 1680x1050 resolution (of the DTH2Go) due to the monitor signals not all being fed through a single Dual-Link DVI port. There is at least one guy I know of on there with three 30" panels. Compatability can be a bit sketchy for certain games but there are a lot of people using it and able to help provide solutions for alot of the current generation games. I used this software before I bought my DTH2Go and found it very useful, if a little buggy, it does take a bit of trial and error and tweaking the settings to get it to run. There is also a slight performance hit due to it being software based.

Thank you, NZCoyote! I didn't know that for horiontal span both monitors need to have the same resolution. So DTH2G seems to be the only hardware solution at the moment. But I also will have a look at the SoftTH solution you mentioned. Thanks again

Tom
