Post subject:  The 80$ monitor stand

So I bought a Tyke super triple monitor stand for about 80$ shipped. I heard good things about it, but I really didnt know what to expect from a stand that costs 1/4th what ergotron charges. I finally got it set up and here are my thoughts:

Installation - Easy as pie

Build Quality - Seems very sturdy

Functions - Tilt, Swivel, Rotate, Extend, Retract, Height (cant be adjusted with monitors)

Look/Design - Very clean, makes my desk look alot less ghetto.

Cons:
1) Its a stand. You will sacrifice full control of monitor orientation by getting a stand. My biggest gripe is that I can't have landscape set up with the monitors angled towards me. I like my landscape in that way, but if you don't, then its a nonissue. I looked at the ergotron ones that are pre-angled, but I like my 3x1 portrait flat! Seems like I can't have it both ways.

2) I was expecting perfect alignment. Unfortunately my stupid samsung 245T uses 200x100, requiring me to purchase an additional 20$ adapter. This adapter however, pushes my sammy a few mm forward, making it impossible to get a perfect alignment, even if its flat. If you have 3 matching monitors, then I suppose this is moot.

Bottom Line:

If you like a flat landscape and have matching monitors, then you want this. For 80$, it can't be beat. But since I like angled landscape with flat portrait, and I have mismatched monitors requiring an additional 20$ adapter. I feel like I would rather save my 100$. It does do alot of nice things, but the pros and cons sort of even out for me, with the price tag pushing it slightly towards the bad side. Even though its extremely cheap for a monitor stand, it still feels like I bought severely discounted chrome rims.

Thank you for the heads up!

Sounds like a good product with only minor flaws.

Hello BIG FLAW...

3x1 Portrait eyefinity WILL NOT WORK! I use that mode for my main game: Dawn of War 2. Its also a decent substitute for watching videos and shit.

I'm not sure what to do at this point. I sawed off an extended shelving piece of my desk that I needed to use the normal stands. I can't return it without eating 40+$ in s/h. I still have the stupid 200x100 adapter...

At the very least, I wish 3x1 landscape would work correctly. One of my monitors seems too far back for some reason. Is there some sort of "depth" adapter I can buy to push it forward? Or should I just get a wood block and fashion it myself?

I guess Ergotron has nothing to fear yet. These stands may be adequate for work, but I am not too thrilled about having them for eyefinity.

Man $63.00 now price is right!

However I setup my monitors like this:

No tilt is instant deal breaker no matter how good the deal is.

Maybe with 17's or something I could go flat but with 24" no tilt is going to take up tons more space and be unnatural to view.

I agree. I wish I did more research before buying this stupid thing. I'm thinking about using very long screws and bolts to allow me to protrude the side ones forward enough to give me tilt. However I am afraid that will put too much strain and twist on the arms and break them.

This looks somewhat intriguing for the price, I'm fairly certain with a little custom-engineering (judging by the pics) I could add pivots to both side arms. May have to pick one of these up just to see......

Well, I just got back from Lowes...

and FML!

They no longer sell the 6' shelve piece I used to cut my support beam. I don't want a white one cause its distracting. This means I can't even revert back to my ghetto old desk setup.

I'm basically left with 3 options:

1) Shop around for another shelf piece and pay another 15$ to revert back to my old setup.

2) Get an Ergotron Mount, which is stupid expensive

3) Get a bigger desk

I would prefer option however, which is turn back time before all this monitor mount malarky, but I don't have a delorian that can go 88.
