I would like to upgrade my two Nvidia GTX 570 HD 1.28gig to something better. I am having issues with massive lag in games on triple 1080p monitors in games like Skyrim, DayZ, and Max Payne 3 on higher settings. I would like to max out the settings if possible and hopefully even AA as well.

So I am guessing the vRam is way too low for my setup. Can I replace both cards with a single card, or do I need to stick with a dual card setup. Is the 670s or 680s even that much of an upgrade from my two 570s? I am only interested in Nvidia cards for now. Please advise me on what options I have!

Thank you! [Setup in Signature + 5x 1080p monitos + GT 430 card]

1.25 gb for 3 screens sounds like too little these days to me, so the massive lag to me sounds like a vram limit.

Personally I wouldnt touch the 680 anymore, simply because it's rather expensive. The 670 is a much more interesting card, it'll probably easily be €100 cheaper and offer almost the same performance of a 680 (non reference design 670 will often even outperform a stock 680).

On paper two 570's are a little faster than a single 670 but with vram limits on triple screen setups i think the 670 will be faster simply because of the bigger vram available.

On the other hand, I'm not sure in how much of a hurry you are, but I'd wait for another 2-3 weeks. Nvidia plans to release their 660Ti on august 16th and from what is known so far it seems to have a killer price/performance point. I'm guessing it'll be the same as above, another 10% off the performance for another €100 off the price.

Only thing you need to bear in mind is the vram, the 670 is available in a 4GB edition but from what i've read the 660Ti will only come in a 2GB edition. 2GB should be more than enough (i recently went for 2x 2GB 670's in SLI) but if you're set on using all the AA settings 2 GB might not be enough. Though so far only BF3 seems to hit that limit at triple screen @ 4xMSAA.

Long story short, if i were you.. I'd wait a few more weeks and (depending on benchmarks/reviews) get a 660Ti or a 670, and see how that works out for you and then decide on getting a second card or not. And I'd drop AA to 2x since you probably wont really see much of a difference.
Unless you stop and pay close attention to every individual leaf on the ingame trees of course :)

I got to admit, I am not impressed by Kepler. Not very 'revolutionary' in my opinion. but that is just my opinion...lots of love for the 6 series over on hard.

Frankly I am more impressed with the 79x0 series, they run alot cooler and have huge overclocking potential, and with price drops, 7950's are start to show up around $300-350 mark.

I'd be tempted to switch to red for the next round.

EDIT: XFX 7950 3GB of VRAM, $329 MIR.

If you are waiting for the 660Ti, don't bother, it has a 192bit bus on the memory making it unfavorable for high resolutions. At least that is what the rumor mill is saying.

Funny enough, the 7xxx cards are the ones i'm not impressed with :)

This year i've gone from 1x 6950 to 2x 6950 to 1x 7970 to 1x670 to 2x 670. I have to say it was a relief coming into the green camp, and considering i've always been an ATi>AMD fan i think that does mean a lot. The drivers AMD is popping out lately are just horrendous and the performance gain going from my 7970 (MSI Lightning edition no less!) to a single 670 actually shocked me.
Two examples being Skyrim and Witcher, one particular area in Skyrim always brought my fps down on my 7970 without AA to about 22 where the single 670 managed to keep it at 40-45 with 2x AA. Same story for the Witcher, back when Eyefinity was still working for me i'd be lucky to get 22 fps with almost all details turned off. One 670 managed to keep above 28 with almost all details turned up.

Your comment about it running cooler is also one i cannot share considering i went from 80C under load to 62 (tops) in SLI under load. But then the twin frozr cooler isnt all too awesome it seems :)

The 192bit bus on a 660Ti might be a problem i'll admit, but thats why i mentioned waiting out some reviews :)

I did find one review of a site who got their hands on them, but they dont test resolutions above 1920x1200 and i believe most of the benches favor Nvidia slightly so... probably best to wait out a few more reviews:

What kind of a figures do I need to supply my 3x 1080p needs? Is 192-bit is referring to the Memory Interface? What is a good ball park for this? 256-bit? What about CUDA, how high am I looking at? And vRam? 2GB? 4GB? higher?

When SLI'ng, can I just double the memory interface, vRam, and CUDA to give me a figure? So let's say for example, X game requires 512-bit for 3x1080p and CUDA 2688, then in theory could I just SLI 670 and meet these requirements? I have seen some really good results from SLI of 670 and your right, the 680 isn't that amazing for it's price.

In SLI both cards need their own memory, which means you can’t add them together. Same goes for memory bus.

The question of who has sells the better high end graphic cards is pretty close this year. I would have to say the 6xx are better when you game on a single screen, but on a triple screen setup AMD at least catches up. This is probably because of the faster memory bus and also a little because of the 1gb difference (2gb for nvidia and 3gb for AMD). Besides that AMD cards overclock a little better, partly because the stock clocks are so conservative. Driver wise I would give the edge to nvidia, but eyefinity is more mature compared to surround. If you want to run either two gpu’s SLI is the way to go. Especially because SLI setups produce less microstuttering. However running two gpu’s lets you turn up graphical settings, which means you need more memory. So although SLI seems the way to go, almost all 6xx cards have 2gb, so you might run into a memory bandwidth problem (although based on most reviews this is highly unlikely with games that are currently on the market).

There is one thing I don't get, why are you concerned with the number of CUDA cores?

Thanks for the information, this helps clear out some of the confusion when trying to decide between cards and companies looking toward triple monitor support. I am only concerned with CUDA core, because CUDA, memory bus, and vRam is the only thing that changes between cards and companies. So, it seemed important? Could I get away with upgrading one 670 now and beat my pair of 570 cards? Later on, upgrading to another 670? Does anyone have charts compairing two 570 and one 670?

Could not find any charts, but please use Google and search for '570 SLI versus 670' and you will find a lot of thread in which people ask the same question. In an ideal situation 570 SLI will be faster than a single 670, but that depends on the SLI scaling of the game you are playing. If you choose to upgrade I would recommend buying two 670's at once, otherwise the gain or leg thereof will probably disappoint you.

I have found good information on through google searches. Do you know of any websites that can show comparison chart like this website. http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/518?vs=598
[They don't have 570 SLI or 670 SLI]
