So I was going to build a 3 monitor setup about 1.5 to 2 year ago but ran out of funds after building my current rig.

At the time there was a lot of debate on what kind of monitors to use with eyefinity. I remember a lot of people talking about dell ips monitors because they cost less that a lot of the others that were out at the time. I do remember that they had problems with the color on those ultra sharp panels. Have they corrected a lot of the problems they once had?

Also what seems the be current "go to" monitor for people these days? I'm sure there are a lot more IPS panels that are geared more for the gaming community now.

If you guys have any suggestion please let me know. I'm kinda out of touch.

i'm thinking about 3x BenQ XL2420T myself.. they should be released somewhere this month. Maybe they me be interesting for you aswell.

So is it still kinda a toss up between TN and IPS panels? I like the idea of and IPS monitor but I would have to sacrifice response time for a few more colors and wider viewing angle.

Its mostly viewing angles and image consistency that is the toss up now. Newer TN's don't have the more visible dithering artifacts and hi-frc (8-bit from a palette of 9-bit lut) brought the colors up to 16.7m some time ago. The still suffer from degradation of image top-bottom especially though, the significans of this is pretty individual.

If you want to go portrait, I would advice going IPS. The degradation of the image due to poor vertical angles of TN's would make the image quality suffer a lot in portrait. Not so much in landscape.

In landscape, TN's would give you the advantage of 120hz, cheaper price and if you match the monitor solution with your GFX card brand and 120hz, some of the screens will then give you the option to try 3D surround (nvidia), Tridef (AMD) or iz3d (AMD).

I wouldn't advice TN's at all if you do anything color sensitive, due to image consistency, but for gaming and movie watching straight on they should do fine.

So what do you guys think of the Dell UltraSharp U2312HM? Last I heard, Dell panels had some light bleeding and color problems.

I suggest NOT using widescreen monitors. Get those old fashioned 4:3 or 5:4 ratio monitors for best results. They are cheaper, give you just as much verticle res, and they don't waste so many horizontal pixels, improving your total FPS.

Well I guess to him, the pixels on the edges of the screen don't matter to him.
But I fell those pixels on the edges of your vision add to the immersion of the game by filling in you real life FOV.

You decide. You can have inverted colours on your outer screens (not hard to do on a TN panel, especially if in portrait), or IPS glow. All LCDs are susceptible to backlight bleed, manufacturing tolerances etc etc.
