Well on the one hand you could use the analogy that the only things on a display like the DS-265W you need worry about are whether the new features work OK. However the standard contrast ratio is higher, so obviously it's not just a matter of whether the new features work well or not, because the core design has changed some.

It will likely take some time for them to ship it to you anyway, so you'll have a bit of a wait no matter what. I'm sorry but the one thing I neglected to ask Doublesight when I called them is when they expect the new model to be available. That is the single most question lingering in people's minds right now. I suppose you could email them and ask though, or email Provantage maybe.

What effect will wide gamut have on games and movies (note: I won't only be playing BluRays but also MKVs, etc)? How does one make sure the colors are correct in games and in movies (so as to not royally mess up skin tones, etc)?

Depending on the display and source material viewed, wide gamuts can usher in a lot of complexity. This is due to wide gamuts being more suited to some uses than others. The result can mean over saturation in some uses and good color content/accuracy in others.

The only way to combat such problems should they arise is to use separate profiles for each type of use, eg: gaming, movies, photos, etc. This means you have to either hope your display handles a wide variety of sources with wide gamut well, or has the option to make custom profiles for each use. Otherwise you'll have to use the video card panel to set profiles.

Well, I just ordered a 2709WFP through a friend's office at an incredible price. Should have it in a week or so. Will post some comments afterward.

I've always liked the look of the new 2709s - plenty of screen size, and high resolution.
