From what I've read there are complaints of everything from data loss, reliability, heat, incompatibility, etc. Others say they work fine, esp if you set the jumpers correctly. Like I said though, complaints seem to be more common with 1TB drives in general, regardless of brand, than with 500GB ones.

Hm. Thanks. I'd heard bad things about the 1.5TB drives for varying reasons, but I'd not noticed anything about 1TB drives in general. I've been very pleased with my Samsung drives so far - but then I do make sure that my drives are cooled fairly well. Maybe that's it...

It's quite cold in my flat this evening, but I've just stuck an extra jumper on. As long as the pipes don't freeze, I'd rather stick an extra layer on than heat the whole flat when I'm only in one room. ;)

There ya go, I tend to pamper my Raptors, and they're basically built like tanks. I keep them defragged and cool and try to stay within 85% capacity. Just neglecting defragging for a period of time then suddenly wallopping your HD with a major defrag can cause wear and tear on it, esp if you don't have good air flow. Given the percentages of complaints vs the number of these drives sold, I have a feeling most of those calling them junk are abusing them in some way, possibly without even knowing it.
