Been browsing "pro" reviews and benchmark results, still no clear idea of how a single 4870 X2 performs compared to two GTX 280s in SLI... (It's amazing how quite a lot of these folks can test high-end GPUs over dozens of games and/or resolutions while using E8200s or Q6600s CPUs, then draw their conclusions and give advice to serious gamers. Ever heard of CPU bottleneck, or the weight of multi-GPU solutions over the system's resources, you morons ??)
I for one think comparing a dual-GPU card to a dual single-GPU cards setup makes some sense. Both solutions (coupled with recent, beefy CPUs) were supposedly designed for playing at very high res with max settings. The price and platform are details as long as you can't directly compare performance. And even though swapping a SLI setup for a dual-GPU card may not seem to be the best upgrade path, those numerous Xbox ports usually feared by nvidia and cherished by Ati are blurring any prognostics imho. Dang, guess I'll have to buy one of those cards and do the testing myself !!
