if the early G80 benches are right then it doesnt pull much more than a X1950, so G80 SLI is like X1950 crossfire.

With his rig its about 450w.

R600 crossfire will anihilate a 600w PSU.

168w TDP not usage. in reality its much lower consumption. 168w of heat would be insane. and well beyond its output imo

I'm sure that in normal usage it's lower than that. I just filled in the blanks on the web form WRT system and say what came out the other end.

But is 168w TDP so completely unbelievable if the CPU was completely maxed out? The Prescott core chips were in the 120 region, and Smithfield and Presler broke 130w TDP without being overclocked. I know that the AMD chips used less power, but the single core ones were still in the 80w area. It doesn't strike me as impossible that an overclocked dual core would hit that - although I didn't say it lost that much in heat - it might draw that much, but not all of the power drawn would be lost in heat, surely?

intel tdp + intel chipset tdp < amd tdp.

intel cpu doesnt have memory controller in it

and they use "typical" tdp.

amd use max tdp

Eh, I'd much rather overestimate the amount of power I'm gonna need from my PSU than underestimate it anyway. :D

This would probably the best way.:) A PSU runs cooler and quieter when under half load than unter 80%+. But a 800W PSU on a PC which loads only 200W under full load also decreases efficiency.

Seasonic is a great PSU, might be my next one.. maybe. I am a big PC P&C fan now tho so it will be hard to sway me away from them.

Lets hope they start to lower the power requirments for video cards isntead of raising them next gen... we are getting really damn close to the "safe" max power a wall outlet can put out for some of our PCs.

I should dive into research for some of the new cpus/video cards and post up the average power drain and the kind of psu you would need to safley drive them, if anybody has some good links for me to get that sort of info from feel free to PM it to me or post it.
