Hello,

I am in the market for a new, better and bigger monitor (my current monitor is a DELL 2407WFPB 24'')

Ofcourse i know when i ask that question i get a lot of answers like what is most important for you.
Well i will try to describe what i am looking for:

* Crystal clear images and bright colours (by normal pc usage)
* no lagg during gaming (FPS games)
* resolution at 1920x1200
* Perfect for watching movies on.

So i like to know if some of you can tell me wich one i must buy. :?

Did you like your Dell? Are you upgrading because it was too small or not happy?

I'm happy with my 2407, it's exactly what I like so if it was me, I'd go for the 27" Dell. But I used to work there so I've always liked thier screens.

Well i like my dell but i can imagine there are better monitors, especially concerning lagg.
I am upgrading because i like a little more bigger monitor more.

This helps a bit finding lag measured on screens:

Try to reduce the list a bit to an "acceptable lag" and then it will be easier to help you with the rest. :)

Out of all those the DoubleSight DS-263N is the best IMO. It's basically a Planar PX2611W a lot cheaper. Some on Newegg are saying the new DS-265W model they replaced it with doesn't have a brightness adjustment and rather a mere black level adjustment. After looking at the DS-265W manual though it clearly shows a separate brightness adjustment.

I have found a more detailed review that seems to indicate some of what the Newegg customers were saying is true though. The monitor is factory set to 50 out of 100 on brightness and the review says you need to stay pretty close to that for the screen to look right (47-52 range). It also says adjusting the brightness as low as say 20%, which was a common setting to use, results in complete loss of black level variation and detail.

He does say the 50% setting is not nealry as bright as most LCDs though. I get the feeling perhaps DoubleSight now uses a fixed brightness level via undervolting the backlights slightly and employing a black level instead of brightness to avoid the common buzz that cheap dimmers used in affordable monitors often have. If anything the DS-265W appears to be an even better deal than the previous model, bringing more features for about the same price. Some would like to see HDMI ports included though.

Hello, well i just ordered a DELL 2709W if you compare everything then the DELL is absolute the best monitor for the money.

It's a alrounder and good for gaming and everything else.

To me all rounder means very good at movies too, that is where an S-IPS panel will clearly be better, and you can now get displays with such panels for only $700 due to DoubleSights volume purchasing of high grade S-IPS panels.

Other than that, your going with the the 2709W being a good choice or bad depends on whether it's an A01 revision model and whether you lean heavily toward gaming and only occasionally watch movies.

Yes it's a A01 revision model and i never watch movies on my monitor because my tv is bigger and my couch is much more comfortable.
And gaming ? yes i play cod4 and 5 but i read some users reviews who also does gaming with this monitor and i have a good feeling that this monitor is fine for that also.

Looks like you're good to go then. I look at S-IPS models because I use my PC for everything, games, movies, music, TV, internet and a dab of photo stuff.

I first saw the Dell 27" models at the 2007 Dell/Intel Extreme Gaming Tour. They were nice looking but I'd rather they dropped the fancy aluminum shell and color calibrated it, it needs it. The DoubleSight DS-265W has very accurate colors out of the box, but then that's partly due to it being an S-IPS.

I also don't like that the 27" displays at 1920x1200 res have a fairly large pixel pitch of .3029. IMO they're a bit too small for distant viewing and a bit too large for desktop. The 26" displays have an actual viewing size of 25.5", making them only .2861 in pixel pitch.

Personally, I also prefer S-IPS models. :) The only important thing is that you are happy with your choice.

You are coming from a 2407WFP which I have the impression you like. The 2709 will be a larger improved version of this. Biggest transition (besides size) I think you will get is the wider gamut and the larger lag (since I assume you are sensitive to lag). Dell have a satisfaction warranty, so you can always back out if you aren't happy and if you are, then all is well.

Post back and we'll cross fingers that it will be a happy post! :cheers
