Background
Continuation of 24" to 27"-ish LCD for Gaming and HD?, I suppose.

I'm looking for a 24"-27" LCD for gaming, high-definition movies and all other computer/multimedia needs (I don't have a TV or another computer). This new screen has to be ordered before the end of the year. So it's time to decide.

Qualities
- Budget is high (up to ~1500 USD or ~12500 SEK, not all has to be spent though)
- Good blacks would be nice
- Low input lag and response time (for games, such as FPS)
- No forced stretching: 4:3 stuff should remain 4:3 (older games)
- As quiet as possible: no annoying buzzing or whining, noise drives me insane
- No photo editing stuff (I'm not into that), so perfect colors are not required.
- Pivot functionality is a plus (I think)

Narrowing it down(?)
Since the last thread, the new DoubleSight DS-265W has finally started shipping. It appeared back then (three months ago) we were able to narrow it down to these three models:
* DS-265W
* DS-263N
* Planar PX2611W

We were unsure about the DS-265W then, but how is the verdict today? Which monitor appears to be the best pick for these purposes? I'm not sure if anything else has changed since. If it has, please, let me know.

Wide Gamut
This new wide gamut thing. I'm not too sure about it. I guess it's the future, but is it a good future? Do you think it will cause me any griefs? Buyer's remorse? I don't know too much about it at all.

Thanks!

I'm not sure you can even still get the DS-263N, I'd be pretty surprised if you could. Keep in mind too if you do go with one of those and have to exchange it for some reason like pixel warranty, you may very well be sent a DS-265W as a replacement.

Either of those would be good, though the new DS-265W adds a few features. From what I've read it doesn't have a true brightness adjust though, using what appears to be a black level adjust instead. It's not as overly bright as most LCDs to begin with though.

The Planar is pretty much the same thing as the DS-263N at a higher price with a bit better warranty and different stand. If you can afford it and insist on good service, they'll give you a much more generous pixel policy and ship you a replacement as soon as you call in for an RMA.

You're definitely on the right track though because for your intended purpose, these displays offer the best bang for the buck and all around performance for everything from games to movies to even some photo work. The DS-265W is the only one of the 3 that pivots btw.

Just to clarify in case you're confusing terms, pivot is a feature that allows you to go from portrait to landscape mode, also called swivel. It's typically used for photo work. I'm considering the DS-265W myself, though I'd prefer 16:9 aspect ratio.

I forgot to enter my location. I'm in Sweden so I would have to order internationally. Somehow I doubt their shipping policies to Sweden are as lenient. However, in my last thread I don't think we managed to come up with a screen from any manufacturer readily available in Sweden, that's comparable to these. (The NEC original was said to be even better but reportedly suffers from terrible input lag.) Yet, most major brands are available such as Acer, BenQ, Eizo, HP, LG, Samsung, Apple, Dell, Viewsonic, etc, etc. In fact I think most brands except Planar and DoubleSight are. :roll: Oh, well.

Yes, I know about pivot, I've just never got around to use it.

If you are in Europe, you might want to try the Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Sl 3260, I have owned it for 2 months now and I am very satisfied with it. The colours are not so vivid in the presets it comes with, but you can set them as you wish.
It has no pivot, but I can't see why it should be important. I've owned two other monitors with pivot, and never used them in 4 years.
Overall, this monitor is a good buy, considering the low price you can buy it for, plus 5 ms, hdmi and good contrast and brightness.]
