the only thing you need to do is use a multimeter and check which pin on the stereo jack connector goes to which pin on the multi connector, i would also check the resistance on the cable, i have heard some people (who make their own cable) put in resistors to actually increase the "impedience" of the headphones, to make them sound a little different with amplifiers. maybe try sennheiser themselves for the cable :) |

My HD555s have a replaceable straight 10' Kevlar reinforced cable that has a 1/4" plug on it. I don't know if the replacement comes with the 1/4"-1/8" adapter my phones came with or not. I don't see why you couldn't just order an HD555 cord and either hope the can plug is the same or use the one from your 280s. |

Thanks for the tip Frag, I was hoping that I could get something like this from Sennheiser. I don't suppose that you could take your headphones apart and take a picture so I can see if they do in fact match? I know its a lot to ask so its all right if you don't want to. |

Thanks for the tip Frag, I was hoping that I could get something like this from Sennheiser. I don't suppose that you could take your headphones apart and take a picture so I can see if they do in fact match? No need to, Sennheiser shows the plug to be the same on the HD555s as indicted in their pdf replacement instructions: http://www.sennheiserusa.com/media/productDownloads/otherDownloads/HD595_Changingthecable.pdf Shouldn't be hard at all. You could probably call or email them just to be sure, but I really don't think it's necessary. My cable's been pretty durable. It's lasted several times being rolled over by my task chair on a low pile carpet floor. Yeah I know, I'm clumsy sometimes, what can I say. :P |
