Post subject:  Single 128Gb SSD or 2x 64Gb SSD RAID0 ?

Just want some opinions from anyone who knows.
Im looking to upgrade my C: drive from 2x 10,000RPM drives in RAID0.
Willing to spend up to AU$500.
Do I go for a single G.Skill Falcon II 128Gb SSD or do I raid 2x G.Skill Falcon 64GB SSD?
Or I'm open to other suggestions for high end performance for over 100GB for under AU$500.
Cheers...

what chipset are you running? Under RAID you cannot get TRIM, without special drivers on intel ICH10 IIRC.

Imo 1 is plenty fast enough, unless you have to move massive amounts of data very fast. Boot up times are not much better and random IO seems to suffer a little infact for running raid

Thanks Gilly..
Pretty sure I'll just go pick up a 128 today :)
Just waiting on an ebay auction to finish, hoping I get outbid lol.

I would look at the new Vertex 2 from OCZ, it is the sandforce 1200 controller with the 1500 firmware. It is only 100GB (about 93 usable) but is very fast :)

The Intel ones have also always been solid, and fast, apart from the firmware issues.

I would forget RAID0 since it kills TRIM atm. A nice price/performance pick is still the Intel X-25M G2 80GB/160GB. If you want the real power get some 256GB Cruciall RealSSD C300 with Sata3 and up to 355MB/s. Vertex 2 is cannon fodder for a C300.

I'm pro Intel in SSD since they have the most experience and the most comfortable and reliable drives. Micron (C300) is also nice but I don't trust smaller companies like Indilinx or Sandforce since the tech is new and experiences are still limited.
