Post subject:  Recommandation for a 3 screen set-up
Hi everyone.

This Summer I bought 3 gtx 680. And now that i have gather enough money I would like to change my current screen ( 1920*1200 28" 60Hz ). I would like to buy 3 new screen. I play a lot of games and i would like to know, what is best between 3*120Hz monitor at 1920*1080 or 3*60Hz monitor at 2560*1440, both 27".
I've asked my friends but one say i should go for 120hz because I won't seen the difference between resolutions and the other says I should take higher resolution because I play a lot of str games.

The 120Hz monitor would be the Iiyama ProLite G2773HS-GB1 which is game oriented
The 2560*1440 would be the Samsung SyncMaster S27A850D which is not game oriented. But again I'm not fps player so would I be able to see the difference between a 1ms and a 5ms screen.

What do you guys think ?

Whether you see difference between 60 fps and 120 fps is mostly personal. Normally i'd say you will need to get your fps up to those levels first but since you have 3x gtx680, i'm going to assume that's not a problem :P

Some people cant even see the difference between 30 and 40, some people are sensitive enough to notice the difference between 100 and 120. Which one you are, no idea. You need to decide that for yourself.
If you are in the latter group, it makes sense to go for the 120 Hz screen, otherwise i'd say not really.

The difference between 1920x1200 and 2560x1440 should be clear though, higher resolution on the same size surface makes for a sharper image by definition (though text and such is also smaller).

One thing you should consider though are your videocards.
If you have the 4 GB version you should be fine for the higher resolution, but if you only have the 2 GB version you might run into your VRAM limit on the higher resolution screens.

Thank you for your response. I have the 2GB version of the cards, should I really be worried of high resoultion ? I mean these are 680, 3 of them. If I read it well when you have 3 screen set-up on a 3-way sli, each screen is plug into one card, so if one card can manage one screen it is good ?

Unfortunately it doesnt work that way, each card processes the same entire three-screen image in turn and uses only it's own memory to do so. So the image info on the memory of card 1 is the same as on cards 2 and 3 (so they dont add up to make 6 gb either).

Look at it as if it's a rowing boat ( :shock: ), one boat (PC) with three rowers (cards), but they all have their own oars (memory). :D

Okay I get it, thanks for your explanation. I think I'll go with 3x120Hz monitor at 1920*1080
